Remotefx USB redirection not working?

$

Hi

I've been messing around with trying to get remotefx usb redirection to work, at the moment i just need a mouse to work through it.

my setup:

Host: Running Windows 10 Enterprise 64bit, it have a connected monitor, mouse and keyboard.

Client: Running Windows 10 Enterprise 64bit, not much else to say about this.

I've setup the needed group policies for this to work on both ends.

When i connect from the client to the host, and i select my 2nd mouse to be redirected, in the remote desktop program, the mouse gets detected and installed, and i can even find it on the device manager on the host, but i the cursor is not moving at all, no responds from the right or left click either, still it gets detected.

I can setup my phone to be redirected, but not the mouse, it simply doesnt work.

Is there any solution to this problem?

Had to uninstall my RDS services and reinstall. When I try to change the WorkSpace name through powershell I get this error.

Set-RDWorkspace : Failed to update the workspace on RD Connection Broker server RDS.DOMAIN.COM.
Error: Exception calling "Put" with "0" argument(s): ""

Any ideas? I am running powershell as admin.

Replaced SSL cert, now getting certificate error when launching remote apps

$

Set up:

Server2016 Hyper V Guest
Remote Desktop Gateway
Remote Desktop Licensing
RD Web Access
RD Connection Broker

Server2016 Hyper V Guest
RD Session host

Internal FQDN: Domain.Company.Local
External FQDN: company.ca

SSL Cert Wildcard: *.company.ca

DNS redirects remote.company.ca > external IP on firewall

Firewall port forwards RDP requests to Remote Desktop Gateway via custom port :9999 (443 was taken and my firewall didn't redirect through a WAF well with RDP so this worked)
Custom Port was set in transport options on remote desktop.

Initial setup worked fine, imported the SSL certs (which are now expired) then I updated the server to the HTML 5 client.

That worked until the certs expired, I replaced the certs first in the remote desktop gateway manager then in the Server Manager > Remote Desktop Gateway Overview > Collection Properties (selected the new cert for each, hit apply)

Checked IIS binding, its now the new cert.  Did IIS reset, and rebooted server to make sure changes took.

The portal gets the new cert just fine back to secure padlock in browser.  When launching an app though I get a certificate error:

Your session ended because an unexpected server authentication certificate was received from the remote PC. Ask your admin or tech support for help.

Certificate information:

Server Name:
CN=*.company.ca
Certificate thumbprint (SHA1):

<THE CORRECT CERTIFICATE THUMBRPINT)

I verified the thumbprint against the cert and all was correct.  I hadn't changed the FQDN from the setup before, and even tried rolling back the server and checking, as soon as I swap the cert out in any of the places it breaks the FQDN external being different from internal hoops I had to jump through originally.

Oddly if I go to /rdweb and use the non-html5 method the remote apps fire up and launch just fine.

What am I missing here?

Standalone RD Gateway install

Hello

I have set up a RD Gateway and VPN on server 2019

I have set this up and it is working but am receiving a warning about the licencing "Remote Desktop licensing mode is not configured, RDS will stop working in X days' I believe this is due to having to install the RD connection broker, RD Web Access, RD Session Host when installing the RDS role.

Will my RD Gateway or VPN stop working after the number of days the warning specified or does this only affect the RD Connection Broker?

Is there a way to install the RD Gateway Role on server 2019 without installing the connection broker, session host and web access?

Thanks

A few users are experiencing this problem.

When this happens the start menu will not work. This corresponds with me enabling the roaming of C:\Users\user\AppData\Local

I'm wondering if there is a folder I should exclude from roaming.

If it's not being caused by roaming the local folder then it may be caused by some GPO settings I also changed. I did this because windows search was out of control and consuming too many resources. Unfortunately I cannot disable search completely because of Outlook. My discussion on Outlook and search I had to re enable indexing outlook.

Any guidance on this is appreciated.

So far the only fix I've come up with is temporary, which is to delete the local profile and on the next login the start menu works. After a day or 2 it stops working again. I haven't totally recreated the user profile and I'm hoping this is not the ultimate fix because that would be a PITA to have to do that for all the users that have this happen.

2019 RDS Connection Problems, Errors, Weirdness

$

I'm trying to set up 2019 RDS to replace our 2008R2 Terminal Server.  I used this paper as a guide, but did not publish any apps, just using session based desktops: https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Windows-Server-2016-Remote-ffc383fe

I have a broker server, gateway server, web server and two session hosts.  Licensing server is running on the broker server but not activated yet.  I also haven't enabled the gateway server yet as I'm just testing internally. So far I have just one collection pointing to one of the session host servers. We are not testing any remote apps, just session based desktops.

Here's the problem:

  • I'm able to initially get two users connected (either directly on the broker server, or through the Remote Desktop Web Access page) If a third tries to connect, it hangs at a black screen and eventually gives the message "failed to reconnect to your remote session.  Please try to connect again".  I would expect to see a message about not enough licenses or do you want to bump someone else off.
  • During the black screen time, and before the error message, the active two users get bumped off, but then automatically reconnect.
  • If I then log off one or both of the active users, I'm unable to log anyone into the server again.  They all get the black screen and the error message.  At this point I'm only able to log into the server on the console.  The only way to fix this is to reboot the broker server, and the cycle begins again.

Here's what shows up in the Event Viewer on the Broker server:

  • When active users get bumped out theTerminalServices-LocalSessionManager log shows an error like this: “Session 3 has been disconnected, reason code 3489660929”. Also shows reason codes 12 and 0.  Also get this error in the same log: “An error occurred when transitioning from CsrConnected in response to EvCsrInitialized. (ErrorCode 0x80070102)”

  • In the RemoteDesktopServices-RdpCoreTS Operational log, we get lots of weird errors:

-TCP socket READ operation failed, error 10054”; “RDP_TCP: An error was encountered when transitioning from StateUnknown in response to Event_Disconnect (error code 0x80072746).”;

-RDP_SEC: An error was encountered when transitioning from FStateProcessingData in response to FEventPostReceiveFailed (error code 0x80072746).”

-RDP_SEC: An error was encountered when transitioning from FStatePassthrough in response to FEventCheckAndCompleteReadsFailed (error code 0x8007139F)”.

-Failed InputMgr->GetHandles' in CUMRDPConnection::GetInputHandles at 4043 err=[0x80070102]”; “'GetInputHandles Failed' in CUMRDPConnection::GetInputHandles at 1401 err=[0x80070102]”

Here’s what I’ve tried:

  • All servers are updated
  • Removed and recreated my collection
  • Rebooted many times
  • Restarted the Windows Audio service
  • Tried both from the RD Web Access page and directly connecting to the Broker server
  • Tried disabling firewalls on all RDS servers

I’m kind of at a loss and it’s driving me bananas. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Documentation for "alternate full address" setting in .rdp files

$

Windows Remote Desktop Connection (mstsc) saves the remote computer name like this:

full address:s:rdsh1.whatever.microsoft.com

But if mstsc is launched via Remote Desktop Web Access, the used rdp files have the following content:

full address:s:rdsh1.whatever.microsoft.com
alternate full address:s:rdsh1.whatever.microsoft.com

If an rdp file contains "alternate full address" then "full address" seems to be ignored completely, even if "alternate full address" cannot be resolved.

What is "alternate full address", what is the difference to "full address" and where is the documentation for these settings?

Thanks for any hints!

Note:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/desktop/api/rdpappcontainerclient/nf-rdpappcontainerclient-iremotedesktopclientsettings-setrdpproperty is not helping since that documentation merely converts the setting name into a sentence ;)

Non-persistent RDS environment

Hello everybody,

I have searched all over the internet for an answer to the question "how do I set up a non-persistent RDS environment?".

But I still haven't found it. I know that you can accomplish this by going the VDI route and setting up a non-persistent VM.

This is not what I want or am trying to set up.

I do not want the users to have personal desktops/folders stored localy on the RDS host. They have to be removed or reverted to an earlier state.

The "temporal folder" option in the RDS setup does not provide the desired function. And I cannot find any other option to make the user sessions and folder truly temproal.

I would really appreciate the help.

Best regards

V.H.

Remote Desktop Deployment second RD Web Server

Hi all,

Currently we have 1 RD Web Server, due to the fact that we are testing new MFA software we have to install this on the RD Web Server.

Does anyone know if it is possible to have 2 RD Web Servers with one running on a different URL?

RDS 2012 - User Profile Disks performance issues

$

We have a 2 node Windows 2012 RDS farm with UPD enabled. All UPD are on a dedicated Win2012 file server. Users documents, desktops, and appdatas are excluded from the UPD but are redirect to a different share on the same file server. Now and then, users complain of long logon times, often where the screen goes black for several minutes. When this occurs users which are already logged onto the RDS servers also report general performance issues issues and error relating to 'unable to access temporary environment, etc. To correct the issue we ask users to log out so we can reboot both RDS servers and the file server. Obviously this is far from ideal and causes a unplanned disruption/downtime. Once the servers have restarted users are then able to log back on to the RDS farm and performance is back to normal. The issue then reoccurs within a matter of weeks or a month. We've ran some perfmon logging on the three servers but couldn't see any obvious signs of resource contention. Strangely, if we log onto the RDS servers as an administrator, who are excluded for folder redir and do not have UPD, we do not witness these problems. We believe the issues is related to the UPD as we also have a legacy four node Win2008 RDS farm. Users on these servers do not have UPD and do not suffer from these issues despite having roaming profiles and redirected folders pointing to the same file server on a different share.

Has anyone come across a similar situation or have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?

Unable to renewal Windows 2012 RDS Certificate.

On my Windows 2012 RDS connection broker server, I created a cert request in IIS.  After I received the cert from my vendor, I completed the cert request and applied the new cert to the RDS website.

I then go to MMC and export the certificate to a PFX file with a password.

Next, I go to Server Manager>RDS>Overview.  Under Deployment Overview, I go to edit Deployment Properties>Certificates.  I highlight the "RD Connection Broker - Enable SSO" and select existing certifiate.

I specify the cert I export and the password and I get the attached error.

Please advise if you know how to fix it.

hi all,

we use a Remote Desktop Server 2016 (VMWare 4 CPU, 48GB RAM) only with 40 User and have many Problems with high CPU during logon logoff. We spend much time to find solutions in internet, but the problem is still current

our old Server 2008 with 4 CPU 32 GB and 100 User (same applications) work's fine! Is Server 2016 a step backwards?

RDS Consulting and Services

I have a client that is using a windows app that is hosted by the app developer and its accessed over RDS. We need some consulting help on basically replicating the setup to run the app on our own Azure / AWS account. We need direct access to the DB for BI, thus the need to move it off their shared servers since they don't allow access.

Need someone in the US that is familiar with RDS, licensing, setup in Azure / AWS.

There is a profile on the forums named TP [] that looks like a good fit, but I can't figure out how message him directly.

Thanks!

Dear Experts,

I have RDP Licenses from my MCT Subscription. which I use for my students in my LABs.

I got per user and per device CALs there.

But problem is that I have used all the licenses in my LABs which are removed from my HDD now.

I have no way to revoke those licenses from those VMs now.

Could anybody help me to resolve this issue. Because I have to conduct class in next week for my students.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

RDP Setup error

$

Hi,

I originally set my Server 2016 RDP server up by going to Role-based or feature based installation as I thought that would work ok...However I since found that no collection was showing in server manager, and apparently I had to run the other method... so I did.

It succeeded on Remote Desktop Services role services, failed on session collection with the following error:

Failed:
Unable to create the session collection. Unable to configure the RD Session Host server servername. Invalid operation

And cancelled on Remote App Programs.

I assume this would be because I already had it all setup. However it all seems to be working now, I had to add the gateway and licencing to the collection.

Do I need to do anything or is this to be expected if it was already otherwise setup?

Does it make sense to set up two Windows RD License Server within one domain?

Hi guys,<o:p></o:p>

We have the following situation in our IT environment. We set up multiple terminal servers, which are used by 50-60 end user of our company. They use them regularly. Every terminal server is a RD license server at the same time.

We also have 50-60 3-party-accounts from other companies, who are using one specific terminal server to get access to our IT environment. This guys are maintaining/repairing our systems, installing software updates, and so on. They are doing it irregular. That means, that there are some 3-party-users, who use this terminal server once a week, and some of them who use it once in 6 months. This terminal server is also a RD license server. <o:p></o:p>

Now we are looking forward to reduce the number of our RD license servers to one or two. The question is, whether we have to separate the RD license server into a RD license server for internal users (who are performing business processes) and RD license server for external users (who are maintaining and repairing our systems). The number of internal users is constantly growing and we are afraid, that at some point of time in the future all free RDS user CAL will be reserved by our internal users and in the case of a critical system failure one of our external users won't be able to access our environment and fix the problem (because there won't be any free RDS CAL).<o:p></o:p>

Does it make sense to set up two RD license server in our case or what would you advise? I would prefer only one RD license server if we could assign some fix number of RDS CAL to the terminal server our external users use (but I think it's not possible) or if we could be sure, that even in case we don't have sufficient number of RDS CAL for some reason our external users will be able to connect to our terminal server in a critical situation.<o:p></o:p>

Of course we have to take care that we buy new RDS user CAL every time we grow, but what if we forget to do it for some reason (for example in case that the responsible person is sick or leaved the company)?

Thanks in advance and best regards
Valdez
