RDS 2012 remoteapp sessions, HKCU/Control Panel/Colors

$

I am in a test environment with a 2012r2 session host and with a 2012R2 gateway.  We published an application that currently requires us to modify the registry, specifically the 'InactiveTitleText' value in HKCU\control panel\colors.  In a remote desktop session, the registry change works fine, and the app displays as expected. However, once we are in a remoteapp session directly to the app, it will overwrite our registry value('InactiveTitleText') back to the default value of ' 0 0 0'.

Is there a different location for this value in the registry for a remoteapp session? How can I get this value set to a specific value within a remoteapp session besides the default value of '0 0 0'? Or is there no workaround for this? Settings in RDS I'm missing maybe?

Terminal Server 2016: Printer icons are not visible in Devices and Printers

Hello everyone!

I have following problem: On our Terminal Server, Server 2016 Version 1607 (OS Build 14393.3085) the printers are not displayed correctly under Devices and Printers for a long time. For several minutes only an unknown device is displayed under "Not specified" with the status "Device Setup in Progress".

As in the article (https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-hardware/printers-disappear-in-devices-and-printers-after/8de8dd50-b658-4318-9eb5-c88181d5f811) described, i checked whether the services are set to the default startup type and whether they are also started. (Which is the case.)

If I look at the printers under C:\Windows\explorer.exe ::{2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D} they are installed and shown up correctly immediately.

Also in the applications the printers are displayed and printing also works.

However, the users call us and complain that the printers are not installed. :D

Do any of you know the problem?

Thanks, Tom

RDP connection to Windows XP

Hi there,

I'm connecting to a Windows XP SP3 via RDP and I'm experiencing slow monitor refresh rates whenever no user input is present.
I use a program with an animation and whenever I move my mouse or press a key (like 3-5 per second) the animation runs super smooth. No user input however slows down the animation to a point where I am not able to use the program efficiently anymore.

Is there a way to force the refresh rate to a maximum or to simulate the user input? I don't really want to sit there and spam a key all the time ;)

Thanks in advance,
Jan

Remote Desktop Session Host Server - RAID10 vs RAID1

Scenario:

VMware ESXi 6.7 U2 Server

-2 x 8 core CPUs with hyperthreading

-64GB of memory

Virtual Machine 1:

-Domain Controller / file server

Virtual Machine 2:

-Terminal Server (remote desktop session host server)

-10-20 users

Storage setup for ESXi Server

Option 1. Go with 4 x 10K RPM drives in RAID10

-Virtual Machine 1: domain controller / file server

-Virtual Machine 2: terminal server

Option 2. Go with the following

2 x 7K RPM drives in RAID1

-Virtual Machine 1: domain controller / file server

2 x SSD drives in RAID1

-Virtual Machine 2: terminal server

For the storage setup, is Option 2 a better setup than Option 1? I’m not concerned about the file server drive speed but more concerned about the terminal server drive speed.

RDS connexion when Broker goes down

Hello,

We have 2 RDS server in 2019 and one for the RDBC role. We also have a DNS round Robin entry: SRV-RDSFARM pointing to the two RDS servers. We configure remotapp connexion with the SRV-RDSFARM address but if the broker server goes down, we cannot connect to remoteapp anymore... I read everywhere that when the broker goes down, we should only loose the Load balancing and the reconnect to existing session after a network problem features but we should be able to keep connect to the RDS farm but its not our case... so whats wrong with our settings please?

Thanks

RDS farm PKI Error "You cannot logon because the logon method you are using is not allowed on this computer."

Microsoft RDS expert assigned to organization cant even figure this one out. Read carefully!

After normal business hours (6pm-7am), users can remote into the RDS farm using Username/password AND PKI Token.

During normal business hours (7am-6pm), users at SPECIFIC locations (not every location with RDS access) can only login to the farm with username/password. If they attempt to use PKI Token they get the "You cannot logon because the logon method you are using is not allowed on this computer." error. Again those same users CAN login with PK/Token after normal business hours but CANNOT during business hours.

I am convinced it is not a GPO or STIG issue because the do not run on timers. Also don't think it is a Session Host user space issue because I have 4 SHs and only about 15 ppl on each HS at any given time during the day.

I don't know what else to do, someone please give me the answer to this crazy issue. PLEASE!!!

Azure Server 2016 RDSH & UPD & Windows Services

Hello colleagues,

I'm facing a weird scenario in which I'd like to set up a new Windows service that must use a specific domain account. This server is a Azure Server 2016 that acts as RD Session Host configured for User Profile Disks (UPD).

In other words, I have one RD Session Host and every time a user logs out, Windows unmounts the VHD and its profile disappears.

Then, I've configured a service with a specific domain account. However, its profile does not exist on C:\Users, due to the UPD feature. Consequently, when the service starts, it fires the eventid 1511 "Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile".

Could you help me to find a workaround?
For me, the service can even use a temporary profile, but Windows never deletes them and flooding C:\Users with folders like "temp.001.002.003.nnn..."

remoteFX USB redirection

I have a Server 2012R2 VM hosted on hyper-v.

I can manage the VM, but not the hyper-v.

I want to connect to the VM with RDP (from a windows 10 computer), and redirect a local USB (some license dongle). And I hoped remoteFX could do that.

HOW do I get remoteFX to work? I have trawled througt a lot of guides and blogs, without luck.

It seems that the VM, being 2012R2, does not require vGPU, and hence the hyper-v host does not need to be able to provide that. I cannot determine if the hyper-v host MUST have the RD Virtualization Server role installed or not (I hope not)

It seems that all it takes on server VM is to enable remoteFX/USB direction, and to install Desktop Experience.

And to disable "do not allow supported plug and play device redirection" on on the server" and enable "Allow RDP redirection of other supported RemoteFX USB devices from this computer.”  on the client.

Yet, it seems not to work. Any help is appreciated.

hello all

i need to upgrade my remote app server from 2008 to 2016,

and i need to create 2 rds servers and 1 broker server.

so i started  from here:

i choose "quick start" and after that its installed me "rd connection broker "rd web access" and "rd session host"

now i am thinking if to installing the local programs that i need, and publish them.

and for finish i will clone that machine

after that i will create another server that he should to be the broker (if its necessary?)

my question is, its ok to do like that ?

and if its ok to work with 3 broker servers? because in a regular ts servers (not remote app. i remember that need only 1 broker server)

tnx

Windows Server 2012 RDS CAL with no Active Directory

Hi all,

I have a Windows Server 2012 machine that is not part of a Active Directory. I have purchased 5 CALs (per user) for RDS purposes. Does AD (Active Directory) need to be anyhow involved in this scenario? If so, can I run the AD on the server itself as it is only for 5 users? Can't I just create 5 users without the AD?

help greatly appreciated!

RDS 2012 R2, clients sometimes missing green tick / green check mark on default printers.

Hi, 2012 R2 RDS and a printserver. Users dont have any local printers, they use wyse. There default printers in the RDS session is set to different printers on the printserver. In maybe 25% of the time the green tick dont show up on the default printer, the green tick isnt showing up at any printer on that user so it dosent look like there is any default printer for that user. If they look at the properties on the printer it show as default, but the green tick is missing. Some programs dont function 100% since they need a default printer, bur it looks like some programs cant see what printer to use as default printer if the green tick is missing. Where to start looking?

Error: There are no available computers in the pool

Hi,

We have an issue with Remote Desktop Services on Windows Server 2016 servers (RD Virtualization Host).
There are personal unmanaged Windows 10 machines running on these servers.
When you log on the RD Web website it gives an error:

There are no available computers in the pool. Try connecting again, or contact your network administrator.

The user can login with mstsc onto their machine, but through the RD Web website doesn't work.
Normally the website works fine, but once in a while this issue happens.
This issue is fixed when we reboot the RD Website server.
There are no related errors in the eventlogs.

Anybody any idea?

Thanks,

Server 2019 and RemoteFX USB redirection problems

$

Following testing scenario:

- All in one RDS Server (Broker, Host, Licensing and WebAccess)

- Two identical ThinClients with two connected USB audio devices (Lync Phone Edition and USB-Soundcard) - UserA and UserB

- RemoteFX USB redirection enabled

- no GPOs except RemoteFX are set for testing purposes

So if the first UserA logs in, everything seems fine. RemoteFX devices are redirected and both audio devices are set as default (soundcard as default audio and LPE as default communication device) After UserB logs in, his devices are also redirected and set as default - no problems at all. But at the same time as UserB logs in, the default Audiodevices of UserA are unset. If i set the default audio devices manually for UserA, they are unset for UserB.

I have made the same testing on Server 2016 - no such Problems.

We had the same scenario running in productive enviroment on Server 2012R2 for about 5 years, this issue didnt occure.

2019 RDSH - not able reconnect to Disconnected session, every time new session (with fSingleSessionPerUser=0)

Hello colleagues

When we are doing such config (enable multiple sessions per user):

Computer Configuration\ Administrative Templates\ Windows Components\ Remote Desktop Services\ Remote Desktop Session Host\ Connections

Restrict Remote Desktop Services users to a single Remote Desktop Services session     Disabled

We are not able to reconnect to any disconnected session that was running previously.

It seems that it was mentioned here for Inside build, but we have same...

https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Windows-Server-Insiders/Bug-no-reconnect-to-disconnected-session-with/m-p/282056/highlight/false#M829

Any solutions for this problem?

Remote Desktop not working anymore on Windows 10 & Windows 7

$

Hi,

since a few days, we have issues while trying to connect from Windows 7 & 10 clients to a Windows Server 2012R2 RD Farm.

RD farm is composed of two RD session hosts + 1 RD Gateway.

Windows 10 clients are build 1809.

The clients and the servers are in different domains with one-way trust. It worked just fine until a few days ago, when clients started getting the below error message. In the TerminalServices-Gateway/Operational log file, I can find a lot of 312 and 313 events which indicate that connections are not authorized.

I have no clue what changed as compared to when the connections where working fine.

We introduced the Microsoft Remote Desktop app as a workaround, and strange enough that works, but it is not liked very much by our users cos it has some drawbacks.

Can anyone help me, or point me where to look at?

Thanks,

Remote desktop services goes "stale"

Hi there, we are experiencing an issue where we connect to one of our realtime machines and randomly (this happened about a week apart from one another) after you have authenticated, it just goes black and stays that way. I have to reboot the server to get the remote desktop services working again.

I have noticed by logging into the console session on vmware, that after authenticating on the remote desktop client, it doesn't actually connect because my session using the same credentials on the vmware console is still active and untouched.

Here are some errors I see :

An error occurred when transitioning from CsrConnected in response to EvCsrInitialized. (ErrorCode 0x80070102)
&
An error occurred when transitioning from CsrConnected in response to EvCsrInitialized. (ErrorCode 0x80070057)

These logs are also accompanied by Event ID 4005 "The windows logon process has unexpectedly terminated"

I also noticed when I enter the IP for the VM in the remote desktop client and hit enter, the logon screen comes up immediately instead of the couple of ms you normally wait.

Any idea on how to fix this permanently?

Remote Desktop (RemoteApp) session closes after 10 seconds when IE is initial program called by URL

$

Head scratcher:

In my remoteapp (RDS) environment, should a user initiate a session by selecting a menu item that is a reference to a URL, the appropriate (user default) browser opens as expected, but times out after about 10 seconds, closing the session.

If I create hard-coded menu shortcuts (iexplore http://somedomain.com), the session is stable.  The issue is my clients have a number of cloud-based services they wish to access from the menu - and everyone has their browser preference.  I'd rather not have to create 2 or 3 shortcuts per URL.

Does anyone know WHY RemoteApp exhibits this behavior - better still, does anyone have a fix (other than hardcoding the URL's)?

Thanks!
