We have a new farm for TS 2008 R2 and have run into a problem related to printing.
In our environment users are accustomed to going to Start - Run and entering \\SERVER\PRINTER to load a printer from the 500 printers we have spread across 65 print servers. However when they try that on our TS farm they get an error when the driver loads because they are not an administrator.
Our users are not using a specific hardware or software platform and do not have the printers loaded directly on their hardware because they are coming in from the internet, or not even using a Windows device so just redirecting the local printers in to the RD session isn't the answer; although it does work in cases where they do have a printer loaded locally.
I know there are new printing features that allow you to give users the permission to print to network printers without loading the drivers but I haven't found any clear documentation on how to set it up. I don't have a problem putting a list of approved print servers in, but don't know how. Even allowing them to load drivers from a pre-approved list of servers is fine by me, but again I can't seem to find how to do it.
Does anyone have any good documentation on how to set this up in GPO so that I can let users print to any network printer while in a session? Really hoping I don't have to load 150 or so different print drivers on the terminal server.
