Prompt for credentials on the server, not the client

Hello,

When I connect to my Windows Server 2012 RDS server, I get prompted for credentials on the client side. I would like to have the authentication on the server side. I have screenshots of what I mean below. Both were taken from the same computer using the same RDCM window but they are connecting to different RDS servers. On the server that is prompting for credentials client side, I have tried setting the policies:

"Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host > Security > Always prompt for password upon connection" set to "Disabled"

also

"Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Connection Client Prompt for credentials on the client computer" set to "Disabled"

I still get prompted for a password on the client computer. I have also compared the GPO settings for Remote Desktop Services of both servers and they are matching. What do I need to do to remove the client side prompt?

This is the "Client Side Prompt" that I do not want to see:

This is the "Server Side Prompt" that I want to see:

HI,

Incorrect licensing CALs are showing on my licensing manager.

Hello Team,

Below is my environment details.

  • 1 RDSH server ( 2016)
  • 1 RDCB server ( 2016)
  • 1 DC (2016)
  • I have configured the licensing role on RDSH server.

I have purchased 30 per user licenses. I have successfully activated the licensing server. Installed the licenses. Applied the correct group policy settings. But the issue is " the licensing manager shows Incorrect cals and none of the cals are getting issued when the users are connecting. When I run the license report, it says no licenses are issued.

Ideally it should show 30 available per user licensing cals. Instead it displays 500 available cals. My doubt is, however, its showing 500 available cals, why it is not issuing none of them.

I want correct data to be shown on the server i.e 30 available cals.

Any kind of help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Shravan

Windows Server 2016 - RD Connection Broker - Failed to install because one or more parent service not installed or disabled

Hi All,

I've been trying for the past couple of days to deploy Remote Desktop Services to newly built 2016 Server (member server not DC). It just fails repeatedly when trying to install the connection broker role.

I've completed the windows updates (although that was dramatic in itself!) and then turned my attention to installing RDS services, tried Role based and remote desktop services type deployments, but on both it just fails and gives a useless and generic error message:

----------------------------------------------------------------

GetAlterationState method returned Failed. Error: The request to add or remove features on the specified server failed.
Installation of one or more roles, role services, or features failed.
One or several parent features are disabled so current feature can not be enabled. Error: 0xc004000d

----------------------------------------------------------------

I've tried the following:

Change the Windows Internal Database service to administrator, or network service, or local system. (didn't work)

Moved server to separate container and disabled GPO inheritance incase it's a group policy setting issue.

Tried installing connection broker role via powershell.

Changed local security policy to make sure log on as service right is set for NT Service\All services, domain admins and network service.

SFC scan and DSIM repair image.

I can't figure out which service is possibly required to install this role which I haven't already enabled.

CBS logs don't provide much insight into why this has failed unfortunately.

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Billy

Broker for VDI

I have setup RDS/VDI on a server. I've got a connection broker server that also does the web access. I then have another server for the rd virtualization host. I am doing vdi per user so they get the same machine each time. This seems to work if I go to https://servername.domain/rdweb I can log in and see the rdp icon and when I click it I can log into the correct vm. My question is though I am going to deploy zero clients, what is the correct server name to put in so that when user x logs in it gives them their desktop/vm?

Thank you

Redirected Printers Server 2016 no client settings

We have some problems with redirected printers in Server 2016 datacenter.

When the client redirect his printer into the remote desktop Service. The server uses the default remote easyprint driver.  The problem we come across is that the client settings will not be redirected so the client can't use all the trays or uses both side printing. it isn't possible to change settings on the printer because it's a redirected printer.

The steps we take.

- Tried another printer (same problem)

- Tried original drivers on the server (same problem)

- Clean Windows server 2016 standard installation (same problem)

- Tried on server 2012 with both printer. remote easyprint (no problem)

- Install the printer directly on the server with original drivers (no problem)

All the above steps are performed with an administrator account.

So we can conclude there are some issues with redirected printers in server 2016.

Is this a well know issue in server 2016 or is there a solution for this problem.

Unable to manually load balance

Hello everyone, I am in need of some help with my setup of Remote Desktop Services (RDS).

So for my setup, I have 2 physical machines(Server A & Server B) which are running Windows Server 2016 Standard on them.

Server A have the following features installed - Broker, Web, Gateway, License, Host.
Server B have the following feature installed - Host.

Both of the servers are joined to an Active Directory (AD) and I have created a RDS Farm to house the 2 servers.

Under the collections, I have created a new collection (Collection01) and allowing the access from a certain user group.

My question is that, am I able to fix the user to the Server that he have entered before, so that he won't be swing around between 2 Servers ?
The broker will help to load balance only at the initially login of the user.

Ghost typing the letter G

We have a 2016 standard server to which a few employees connect to for Terminal Services. Only one client using Windows 10 has suddenly developed an odd problem. The letter "g" keeps being printing. It doesn't happen on the computer itself, just in TS. I removed all peripherals thinking maybe there was some signal being transmitted from there, but still happens. Any ideas?

Server 2012

I have a server farm consisting of a broker, three rds servers etc

I want to have my domain groups/users control which users are allowed access to specific servers.

Example: a xxx_admin group will be routed to server 1; xxx_sales group will be routed to server 2 etc.

I'd like to do this all with domain user/group configuration.

Thanks for the help...still pretty new to this.

When I log onto our rds gateway, I see the Remote Dektop Icon from the collection object I created.

But when I click on the icon, the local RDP client starts. It should just give me a login dialog.

Anyone seen/solved this before?

++ 2008R2  Environment.

++ Customer is accessing third part application via RD Gateway.

++ Customer has public certificate XYZ.COM but the internal domain is different i.e. XYZ.local

++ RD Gateway is configured on the SSL certificate name.(XYZ.COM)

++ Customer created the Forward lookup zone within DNS with the name XYZ.COM and created the host records.

++ Customer has published third party applications to access them via RD Gateway instead from RDweb.

++ I checked from DC customer is able to ping the Gateway server and able to access the third party application.

++ But from client machine which are in same Network unable to ping RD Gateway and unable to access third party application along with mstsc.

Error Message:

Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because the Remote Desktop Gateway server is temporarily unavailable. Contact your network administrator for assistance.

Migrating a Session Host to a different RDS deployment

$

Hi guys,

Currently we have two RDS deployments, which we use for RemoteApp purposes 1 deployment consists of:

- 1 single server with RD web, RDCB and Session Host role. (this was configured long time ago)

Other deployment is:

- HA deployment with 2 web, 2 rdbc, 6 session host and 2 licensing servers. No RD gateways involved.

I want to migrate the single RDS server to our HA deployment. So the connectionbroker and Web Acces roles will become obsolete.

Is there a specific way to do this? Or do I need to delete all roles, and add the server from the other deployment as a session host? (apart from all the firewall rules ofc)

Thanks!

One session, multiple processes

Hay,

i'm trying to move my application to work as RA.

When a user is login to the RA he go to the Broker, from the Broker he go to the Remote Application server.

I can see the user login to the Application Server and the application open on his PC.

When he try to run the same application again I can see that in the Remote Application server open one more session(The same user is login twice... and the application process runs one time in each session)

How can I make the RA "understand" that the user is already login and just to start the process in the same session?

Revoking all Device CAL licenses issue

Dears in Microsoft Support,

we have Windows Server 2012 with License Server activated on two Domain Controllers which they are working as Active/Standby.

We noticed that our client cannot get Device CAL license since all licenses are issued. We tried to revoke licenses but only 20% of licenses can be revoked and we need to wait till April 2019 in order to revoke more.

We need your support on the following:

  1. How to revoke all issued Device CAL licenses on Windows 2012 License server?
  2. How to revoke specific issued license forcibility even we reach 20% of revoke scenario?
  3. How to change expiry date for issued licenses?
  4. Currently we have 20 Device CAL licenses, where 10 is installed on DC1 and 10 is installed on DC2. Is this standard Microsoft scenario when having two DC servers working as Active/Standby? Is there any possibility to install the same 20 CAL licenses on both DC1 and DC2 separately?

Really appreciate your kind feedbacks

SERVER 2012 - RDS Cert stuff

I have probably created a huge mess. I originally had three servers in my farm. I made changes in collections to control who can log onto which rds host using domain group membership.

That works fine when directly connecting to the rds host via our vpn, using the ip of the rds host.

Now I'm trying to get the web access corrected. I have expired certificates. Figure correcting this will help.

I'll start with this screenshot. Can anyone help resolve the error?

Happy share more info if needed.

Error applying wildcard cert to RDS Web Access Role Service, event ID 20480 Failed to enumerate SSL certificate information

I am trying to apply a third-party wildcard cert to a RDS server farm.  The .pfx is imported successfully for the RD Connection Broker roles, but gives an error "Could not configure the certificate on one or more servers..." when I apply it to RD Web Access.  In the Event log, this generates event ID 20480 "Property page: Manage certificates update failed: due to Exception Failed to enumerate server SSL certificate information."

This is an internal farm, with no RD Gateway server, 1 Connection broker/Licensing/Web Access server, and three additional session hosts.

Profileimage Path Wrong, admin account behaving like a temporary one.

I have a asus laptop which was experiencing issues when signing into the admin account. It would just sign me into a temporary account and a error would pop up saying "We cant sign into your account".

But after a few restarts I managed to sign into the admin account but it was all wrong, my usual desktop icons were gone all my local files are now in the wrong place. All my documents are still accessible but I have to navigate through the c drive to the user. I also noticed in registry editor that the Profileimagepath for the account was a temporary path but I'm sure that's wrong and it should be the profile user name. Im not sure whats gone wrong here but any solution to this problem would be very helpful!

Remote Web Apps keeps asking for password even after logging into remote gateway.

The apps that I had published on my remote desktop gateway is still asking for a password when i try to access it even though i have successfully authenticated on the remote gateway.

My setup is that the everything is installed on server1 while the session host is on server2 (app that is published is also on this server2)

I have tried to setup "Always prompt for a password upon connection" to disabled on both server1 and server2, however it is still the same.

reducing farm logon time

hi all,

Win server 2016 connection brokers, 2012 R2 session hosts (due to application requirements), currently 154 session hosts in farm.

if i logon to specific session host, using mstsc.exe /admin, first logon time is approx 8 seconds. Subsequent logons are approx 3 seconds.

if i logon via the farm ()via rdweb, or an rdp file downloaded via RDWweb), the logon times are 18 seconds and 13 seconds respectively.

It seems to me as if the farm negotiation and deciding where to place the client is taking a full 10 seconds - which just ruins the user experience.

i havent been able to find anything by googling this - has anyone got some suggestions as to what to check or what tools i can use to troubleshoot this ?
