Diagnoser shows Host Server Version Server 2016 When Running 2019

When I originally Activated the server licensing via Licenses Wizard using our schools Enrollment ID I may have used an older Enrollment ID number.

I think maybe that was the issue. All I know is when I when into the RD licensing Diagnoser it showed that the Remote Desktop Version Host Server Version is:  Windows Server 2016.

... AND I AM RUNNING WINDOWS 2019 ...

After trying everything i know DE-activating, then re-activating with a more current Enrollment ID for our high school. Did not change anything.

So, removed ALL the remote desktop services and then reinstalled and reactivated. Still did nothing to change the information in the Diagnoser.

The information still shows in the Diagnoser:  Windows Server 2016

HOW CAN I GET RID OF THIS PROBLEM?

When this happens the start menu will not work. This corresponds with me enabling the roaming of C:\Users\user\AppData\Local

 

I'm wondering if there is a folder I should exclude from roaming.

 

If it's not being caused by roaming the local folder then it may be caused by some GPO settings I also changed. I did this because windows search was out of control and consuming too many resources. Unfortunately I cannot disable search completely because of Outlook. My discussion on Outlook and search I had to re enable indexing outlook.

 

Any guidance on this is appreciated.

 

So far the only fix I've come up with is temporary, which is to delete the local profile and on the next login the start menu works. After a day or 2 it stops working again. I haven't totally recreated the user profile and I'm hoping this is not the ultimate fix because that would be a PITA to have to do that for all the users that have this happen.





RDP Reconnect sending bad password || Windows Event ID 4625: An account failed to log on

Issue: User Logs onto Client Machine remotely, then connects to Corp VPN and does RDP to any Corp machine. In case the VPN disconnects or client machine loses network connectivity momentarily, the RDP session re-establishes the connection.  When it re-establishes a connection, it logs a bad password attempt on the users account.  If this happens too many times, users are experiencing account lockout.

Upon checing the logs, I see that the Terminal Service is sending the bad password.

Can anyone suggest what could be the possible issue?

"Terminal Services Gateway server’s certificate is expired or revoked" error, although server certificate is good.

I have a remote system that gets the error 'Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because the Remote Desktop Gateway server's certificate has expired or has been revoked' when it tries to connect to our terminal server through our TS Gateway. The certificate is from StartCom so it's not self-signed and should not need to be imported to the local client and it works fine for everyone else as long as they are up to date with their trusted root certificate authority list from Windows Update.

The computer is running XP SP3 and we are using mstsc located in the system32 directory, which is our standard. The time on the pc is correct. There are other systems on that network segment that are working fine so it doesn't appear to be any type of firewall or other network issue. I've deleted and reinstalled the StartCom trusted root certificate from the client serveral times too. I'm pretty much stumped at this point.

licenses are not getting issued to my session host server

Hello Team,

I have 30 session host servers and I am using non persistent servers where my users will simply login and use it for a day and log off. Whenever they log off the server will get back to its initial state and all the changes made to the servers will be lost.

I have purchased the Per user licenses and configured them. I have installed licensing role on the sever and applied the below group policies to my session host servers.

  • Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Licensing\Specify RD License Servers - I have specified my licensing server.
  • Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Licensing\Specify the Remote Desktop licensing mode - I have specified per user licensing mode.

But the licenses are not getting issued. These servers are still depending on 120 days grace period. In the event viewer it says "  The Remote Desktop Session Host server does not have a Remote Desktop license server specified. To specify a license server for the Remote Desktop Session Host server, use the Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration tool". 

I am wondering that I have already specified the group policies and still it displays the above error. 

I tried deleting the grace period registry key as I read in on the forums, since these are non-persistent VM's at the end of the day the registry key will regenerates and starts issuing the free licenses. I am afraid now, what happens after 120 days?

There are no error messages on licensing diagnose? Please advise is this a kind of bug or something else?

Allow users to RDP to a File Server on another domain

Quick Question:

Have a file server in Domain A and need users that have been migrated from Domain A to Domain B to RDP back to a file server in Domain A  (No Trust), what the simplest way of doing this ?

Effectively Domain A = Company 1  & Domain B = Company 2

RDS clients not connecting

windows 2012 r2, hyper-v, clients connect via rds website and then launch a rds session (vdi windows 10 vm). It was working, but then a few users reported being unable to connect. Silly me, I figured "apply latest updates and reboot" and now no one can connect. I updated and reboot the RDS and Hyper-V server (RDS is actually a VM running on the same Hyper-V server).

From the RDS server's RemoteDesktopServices-RDPCoreTS log a connection looks like this:

Event ID 131, the server accepted a new TCP connection from client blah blah blah

Event ID 65, Connection RDP-Tcp#0 created

Event ID 141, PerCounter session started with instance ID 0

Event ID 133 the following network characteristics have been detected for tunnel 8;...

Event ID 132, a channel rdplic has been connected between the server and the client using transport tunnel 0

Event ID 132, a channel rdpcmd has been connected between the server and the client using transport tunnel 0

Event ID 98, a TCP connection has been successfully established

Event ID 100, the server has confirmed that the client's multi-transport capability. (really bad English there BTW)

Event ID 130, the server has initiated a multi-transport request to the client, for tunnel 1

Event ID 130, the server has initiated a multi-transport request to the client, for tunnel 3

Event ID 135, the multi-transport connection finished for tunnel 1, its transport type set to TCP, reason code 3 (no UDP packets received)

Event ID 135, the multi-transport connection finished for tunnel 3, its transport type set to TCP, reason code 3 (no UDP packets received)

Event ID 103, the disconnect reason is 1033

Event ID 102, the server has terminated main RDP connection with the client

I've found articles about RemoteFX and disabling it via GPO and registry values - which I tried to no avail.

guest os is running a windows 10 iso that was pulled from the microsoft website two days ago. And host windows update said that was up to date as recently as yesterday.

W2016 - Redirected printers not working - Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 50. The request is not supported.

Printing to redirected printers is not working anymore. (It's OK with W2008 R2).

RDP client being W7 (or Wyse ThinOS)

I tried with two different printers : Dymo Labelwriter 450 and Ricoh Aficio SP 4310N PS (and PCl5e).

- The driver is well present on the host side (the redirection occurs well).

- Easy Print disabled (GPO)

When trying to print, the popup message is "Error printing to ....", Then subsequent tries result in popups "Printer is in error state"

The Printservice log says at the end on the error entry   "...Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 50. The request is not supported."

When the RDP client is another W2016 RDSH, then printing to a redirected printer (network printer in that case)  works well.

Mixing server 2012R2 - 2016 - 2019 in RDS deployment

Is there any "official" word about using different versions of Windows server in an RDS deployment?  Is it supported and if so to what extent ? Can't seem to find a definitive resource about this.

Any pointer most welcome !

User Profile Disks with Windows Search

We have 2 RDS Servers (2012R2) and work With User Profile Disks

We use outlook cached mode (Outlook 2013 SP1) because the link to our head office is to slow

The problem is that the outlook search isn't working properly.

Every time the users logs on, search indexes are recreated
This proces never finishes because the server is under a constant load, therefore search never works as it should.

In eventvwr, we see this error alot:

Crawl could not be completed on content source <winrt://{S-1-5-21-xxxxxxxxxxxx}/>.

Context:  Application, SystemIndex Catalog

Details:

The parameter is incorrect.  (HRESULT : 0x80070057) (0x80070057)

RDS Deployment, Server 2012 R2 and 2016, cannot connect when added as a remote resource on modern app

Hello,

I've been having an issue connecting to new RDS deployments, either Server 2012R2 or 2016, using the modern client (UWA?).

If I connect to the rdweb site via  browser, any browser (Chrome, IE, Edge), I can connect fine w/ the downloaded RDP file, either via the old mstsc client, or the modern client.  If I open the modern client and add my deployment as an RDS resource, it adds file, but when I try to connect, it doesn't do anything.  Monitoring network traffic, it doesn't even try to connect to the rpcproxy.dll,or even send any packets on the wire to my gateway.

Doing some digging, I see the rdp file is saved in my user profile (C:\Users\#####\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.RemoteDesktop_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\RADC\{9AFF1AD1-C68D-FC28-FA01-4BD806FA43E4}-Committed\Resource) without an extension.  If I copy the file from there, give it a .rdp extension, I can also connect with that file via either client.

I also don't appear to be able to add the remote resources, at all, via the IOS RD Client.  I haven't tried Mac or Android yet, waiting to stabilize this config, but perhaps that's a separate issue.  I don't see it trying to logon or connect to webfeed.aspx on the RDSWeb page at all.

These would all be the lastest iterations of the clients, I just started this whole setup about a week ago.  I've tried a standard deployment in 2016, then a quick deployment in 2016, and finally a quick deployment in 2012 R2.  I'm familiar with all the cert requirements, etc, I don't think it is any sort of cert issue.  I will say the 2012 R2 quick deployment seemed to work OK initially, until I added 2016 session hosts to the deployment, but now I can't say for sure.  If needed, I could do another quick deployment to verify.

Any insights would be great.  If we can only use rdweb and have users open RDP files I guess we're OK with that, but not ideal.

Remote Desktop Collection and Publishing a Network Share

Hi,

I'm running Remote Desktop for my users and publishing the full Desktop using Collections with 2 Remote Desktop Session Hosts.

I have 2 users who are external consultants and I don't want to give them full Desktops, but rather a share to a specific folder.

My questions are:

1. Is there a way to publish a network share so that the 2 external consultants can access?If yes, how?
2. If the answer is yes, will publishing the network share unpublish the full Remote Desktop?

Black screen after login | RDP in Windows Server 2012R2

I'm facing the black screen issues after login in a Windows server 2012 R2 through RDP. As referred from MS blog (https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/31b681c5-3658-45a5-8158-a0a0f967c4a2/rdp-screen-goes-black-after-successful-remote-login?forum=winserverTS) I have tried to start task manager with alt+ctrl+del keys, but only two options (Lock and Sign out) are available. I can login the system locally. In task manager only 3 processes are running of the RDP user. My observation are there in the attached screen-shots. I have installed the new patches KB4021558, 4022717 and 4022726. Then I have rebooted the server. Since that reboot, issue started. Then I have uninstalled the patches, but unfortunately issue still persists on server.

Windows 2012 R2 remote desktop logon credential behavior

I have a couple Windows 2012 R2 servers in my environment (I inherited) that do not prompt for credentials until after making an RDP connection to the server (i.e. like I'm logging into the console).

Whereas, I'm familiar with opening my RDP client, put in an address, and get prompted for credentials right there (on the client side).

Client is Windows 10.

I dug through these servers and cannot determine why these are behaving this way while others act like "normal" servers. Both types of servers are getting the same group policies. And I don't see anything pertinent in the local policies.

Both types of servers that do and do not exhibit this, all have the following installed:
Remote Desktop Connection Broker
Remote Desktop Session Host
Remote Desktop Web Access

Any insight into why one type of login is different than the other is greatly appreciated.

We have RDS licensing key to be used on multiple servers at same time

We have RDS licensing role on windows 2008 R2 server. Whole Citrix setup is then configured and running using that.

We now want to upgrade it to windows 2016 setup. If we use the same key to activate new windows 2016 RDS licensing server, will it affect the existing setup.

We have only one key with 100 RDS CALS and we need to ensure existing setup is not disturbed as its being in production where users are using it 24/7.

Once the new setup is ready, we will decommission the old setup. But the transition need to be smooth.

Any idea?

Getting a Authentication error 0x80004005 using RDP on Windows server 2012 servers

Hello Everyone,

I'm getting a Authentication error on all of my Windows 2012 servers connecting through RDP. The weird thing is, this error only pops up using the DNS name. If I use the IP of the server, I connect with no issues or errors. 

Does anyone have any ideas?

RDWeb Webclient version 1.0.11 websocket connection error

Hi, after install the webclient and bind certificate to port 3392, I get this error message.

WebSocket connection to 'wss://dc.redecr.intranet:3392/rdp' failed: Error in connection establishment: net::ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT

There is no firewall between the client and the server, the port 3392 is open on RDS Server 2016. 

Any ideas?
