Setup RDS 2012 R2 fails

Hi,

I am trying to set up RDS 2012 R2 using the wizard in server manager. I have already completed setup of a farm in my test lab and it worked well as expected.

However, when i try setting up the same servers (following the same steps as in test) in pre-production environment i get an error.

I am using RDCB01 to do the deployment, having added all the other servers to server manager. In the deployment wizard, adding the first RDCB server (RDCB01) complains that i cannot use psremoting to connect to the RDCB server RDCB01 from the server i deploy from (RDCB01). I then cancel and deploy from RDCB02, the server i will use to later cluster RDCB. It completes without error, but when i go back to RDCB01 and open server manager, go to remote desktop, i get the error "a remote desktop services deployment does not exist in the pool". I check by trying the deployment wizard again from RDCB01, and it does infact find a deployment, then gives me a new error stating "Could not retrieve the deployment information from the RDCB server"

I proceed to uninstall RDS, delete the RDCB01 server, recreate it with same name and IP. Start deployment again and still get the same errors!?

As i mentioned i completed setup the same way without errors in my test lab. Any ideas? I' attaching some error messages from the windows event log.

I have an Azure hosted RD deployment that consists of 2 x RDG/WebAccess servers (one of these is the connection broker) that sit behind an Azure Traffic manager. Behind these I have 6 RD Session Hosts.

I am totally confused over certifcates. What certificates do I need where and where do I create the CSR for each certificate.

Any help gretly appreciated.

Access is denied

Just installed Longhorn August Beta version and configure to Terminal Service role.  I did add user from my AD to “Remote Desktop Users” local group and trying to connect by TS and after logon received “Access is denied” message. BTW: in Event Viewer I see that logon was OK. Interesting that member of Domain Administrators group could connect and work by TS to this new server. Problem occurs only with regular users.

Please, help

Windows Server 2012 r2: Remote Desktop session ended when another user connected

$

Hello,

to my knowledge, in Windows Server 2012 r2 there are two options for multiple Remote Desktop session handling controled by GPO for the RD Session Host with the paramter 'Restrict Remote Desktop Services users to a single Remote Desktop Services session'.

If disabled users may open parallel RD sessions. But some programs do not allow mutliple instances to run, i.e., when trying to run such progam in each session it gets an error.

If enabled and a user opens a new second session while first one is still active, the first session is ended with the message 'Another user connected to the remote computer, so your connection was lost'. There is no warning that there was already an active session running with that user id (like it is shown on a workstation).

Is there any possibility to show a message to a user that is trying to open a new RD session while another one is still active with the same user ID (when 'Restrict Remote Desktop Services users to a single Remote Desktop Services session' is enabled)?

Thanks!

Uwe.

Remote Desktop Services - Remove Certificates

$

Hi!

I have had a functioning Remote Desktop Services infrastructure up until I had to renew my RD Gateway certificate. I think I may have been in a coma because I managed to Select the same certificate for all the Role Services:
1. RD Connection Broker - Enable Single Sign On
2. RD Connection Broker - Publishing
3. RD Web Access
4. RD Gateway

I only have one certificate for my external domain name: rdp.my.domain and I understand that this certificate cannot be used for alle the roles.

What is now happening is that whenever i try to open a RemoteApp, I get this error message:

"Certificate Errors [...] The certificate is not valid for this usage."

Can anyone provide info as to how to remove the certificates for roles 1 and 2? I guess that this is where the error happens. I have no certificate errors when accessing the RDWeb page.

Thanks for any help!

Remote App closes when opening a dialog box...

Hello,

I've been having a recurring issue with a remote app. It involves a dialog box and a number of frustrating hours trying to solve the problem. Which brings me here. The problem is as follows:

The user is in their remote application and needs to either save a file or open a file. When the open/save dialog box appears the remote app is closed, there are no error messages so I can't say that it crashed.

If the same user is connected through rdp, executes the application in an rdp session, and tries to open/save something the dialog box appears and everyone is happy.

This really is only limited to remote app and it occurs quite frequently though not every session.

Any advice?

Pooled desktop log off issue

I am testing pooled desktops using Hyper-v 2012 data center. I can remote desktop to pooled desktops without any issue. I have no issue in reconnecting if I just close the remote desktop. However if I log off the pooled desktop and then try to connect again it says " This computer can't connect to the remote computer". But I can see pooled VM is up and running under Hyper-V manager. Any help is appreciated.

rds licence server and diagnostics, licencing per users

$

Hello,

I have installed RDS Deployment on one server and setup RD Licencing, on other two servers are RDS licencing server roles with installed and activated licences, so far so good.

But when I setup RD licencing I get "The licence server specified is not valid, verify server name..." but in RD Licencing diagnoser the specified server is available it did not identify any problems. Maybe this is caused by turned off NetBIOS.

The another issue is more serious. I have 100 licences deployed on 2 RDS Licence servers and activated, both servers are members of licence servers group. This is for Failover config and I want to use all licences of couurse, problem is that Licencing Diagnoser shows me only 50 licences(or one server), and its the server which is in RD Licencing first, if I swap the servers in RD Licencing then diagnoser shows me the second server and another 50 licences.

Does someone know whats wrong with licenceing and what to do about that?

Thank you.

Hello everyone,

I am testing our VDI solution (Windows 2012R2 Remote Desktop Services) , I created a desktop pool collection (two vms) with users profiles roaming. I am getting strange results, I am testing one simple case of saving a file in the user documents then log off and log in few minutes later to see if the profile romaing is working and if the file I saved in the last login still exist.

sometimes this test case work as it should but other times I log in and I don't see that file I saved earlier !!

can anyone help me here to know why this is happening ? and how to avoid this ?

Update:

I found out that when the user login , actually he log in into a TEMP profile,

there is a warning notification saying the profile couldnt not be loaded and a this is a temporary profile! how to fix this issue ?

and

Thanks

Server 2008 TS - some client could not connect to the server

Hi guys,

I have a Server 2008 x64 Terminal Server with license server (some machine) and installed device CALs.

I can connect with Windows 7 client to Terminal Server by RDP (TS assign device CAL to every connected machine automatically) without problem, but I get this error message if I try connection with Motorola (Symbol) MC8080 mobile scanners:

"Because of a security error, the client could not connect to the remote computer.
Very that you are logged on the network, and then try connecting again."

I tried different settings by KB2477176 and activate/deactivate server, but it didn't solve the problem.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2477176/hu

(These scanners can connecto to another Terminal Server.)

Is it client or server-side issue?

Have you another idee?

Regards,

Gabor

RDP license server in 2012 server

$

We have one 2012 server and i need to activate my 5 users CAL license on this server.

I installed Remote desktop services role installed with RDCB, RDSH, RDWA, RDL and it asked for server reboot. As soon as server gets rebooted and up, we were not able to take any single session of this 2012 server where we installed all the above said roles. It said license server was not available. I took the console of this 2012 server through ILO and uninstalled the only Remote desktop license server role and after that i was able to take the session of this 2012 server and also simultaneously 4 to 5 sessions are now coming.

i need to activate my Remote License server on this same 2012 server but i am unable to do the same. please suggest.

2008 r2 RDP SSL NLA problem "Local Security Authority cannot be contacted"

$

Hi!

I have run into an issue with RDP settings for 2008 R2 servers (all of them) whenever I enable NLA. That happens on user accounts that do NOT enforce password expiration (and so passwords are not expired) and MSTSC supporting NLA (client computers are win7 or win8).

In fact those same clients can use NLA just fine for connections to other win7/win8 workstations (domain members) using NLA, no probs!

SSL certificates are automatically issued by enterprise CA. All computers/servers have current and valid Computer certificates.

For some strange reason, I cannot enable NLA on RDP settings for any of 2008 R2 servers (various roles, ranging from physical DC running multiple roles, through dedicated virtual DC or dedicated virtual Print Servers up to dedicated Remote Desktop Services host), because all of them at once stop accepting RDP connections, always with same error message:

An authentication error has occurred.
The Local Security Authority cannot be contacted

Remote computer: server.domain.local
This could be due to an expired password.
Please update your password if it has expired.
For assistance, contact your administrator or technical support.
That same message also appears on DC (2008 R2) running the enterprise CA role ... irony ...

Please keep in mind that domain member computers running windows 7 x64 or windows 8.1 x64 can accept NLA enabled and SSL encrypted RDP traffic at same time without issues while using the same user accounts to connect.

To make it even funnier, I can set RDP on 2008 R2 acting as Remote Desktop Services server to accept only SSL RDP traffic and keep NLA disabled and all works just fine. So, it is strictly the NLA causing trouble here, but why? WS 2008 R2 unable to use Kerberos authentication for RDP?

WS 2012 R2 can accept NLA/SSL RDP connections without trouble, just as win7/win8 workstations can, so issue is narrowed down to only 2008 R2 servers (physical or virtual).

Is there a hotfix for this problem on 2008 R2? sounds to me like it is a bug in 2008 r2 regarding Kerberos authentication for RDP... is MS ever planning to fix it or we have to upgrade all servers to 2012R2 to "fix it" ...

Printer redirection in RDP activex

Hi All

I am tryingconnect to windows 2008 R2 and windows 2008 from my computer via an RDP activex.

When the activex is activated in windows 2008 and windows 2008 R2 some of the printers aren't being redirected and I see an error in the event log that the  the printer driver is missing. I entered to the server and turn on the easy printers feature but is still doesn't work.

The strange issue is when i am using RDP client (mstsc.exe) from the same computer I can see all my installed printers in the remote server.

I searched for known issues in the internet but I didn't find any similar issue about this scenario.

Thanks for the helpers,
Erez

I'm having a strange issue on all of my Windows clients. The desktops (RemoteApps work just fine) that are published in Web Access don't download in either the Remote Desktop App (Windows Store) or in the Remote Apps and Desktops on the control panel in Win 7/8. The same resources will download on Android and IOS clients however. The follow is in the RemoteApp and Desktop Connections Admin log in event viewer (Event ID 1018):

The following resource could not be downloaded:

https://vdi.georgiasouthern.edu/RDWeb/Feed/rdp/cpub-General_FacStaf-General_FacStaf-CmsTempVm.rdp

Make sure that:

-     The file exists on the remote computer

-     Your computer has the client software to use this resource

-     Your computer can connect to the Internet

-     You typed the correct connection URL

Connection name: VDI @ Georgia Southern

Connection URL: https://vdi.georgiasouthern.edu/rdweb/feed/webfeed.aspx

Error code: 0x80070003, 0x0

My environment is Windows 2012 R2.

Any insight or troubleshooting ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Printer redirection using RDP ActiveX on Windows 8.1

am using RDP ActiveX to connect to RDP server. Printer redirection is not happening with Windows 8.1 using RDP ActiveX.

Using MSTSC application printer redirection happens properly.

It works fine with all OS except Windows 8.1.

Windows 8.1 uses ActiveX 6.3.9600.

This happens with Windows 7 also when ActiveX is upgraded to 6.3.9600

Server is not installing Easy print when RDP ActiveX is used but works fine with MSTSC application.

I tired to use the interfaces, IMsRdpClient5, IMsRdpClient7, IMsRdpClient8 and IMsRdpClient9 but did not find any success.

Any help on this will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Albin

Domain 2003

The main issues is, from all servers i can't connect up to the the RDS server role.

On the RD Connection Broker server i get the error "The following server in this deployment are not part of the server pool, the servers must be added to the server pool" i.e. RDHostServer01.contoso.com, RDHostServer02.contoso.com

On the RD Connection Broker server i get the Event ID 2056

"The Remote Desktop Connection Broker server could not enumerate the targets for the provider named NULL from the database - Pooled virtual desktop collection name: NULL - Error: Logon to the database failed."

On the RD Session Hosts i get the error "There are no RD Connection Broker Servers in the server pool"

On the RD Session Hosts i get the Event ID error

"Remote Desktop Services failed to join the Connection Broker on server RDHostServer01.contoso.com.
Error: Current async message was dropped by async dispatcher, because there is a new message which will override the current one."

The RemoteApp's still work at https://RDHostServer01.contoso.com/RDWeb

I've follow http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331951 with no success

Thanks for the help in advanced!

Cheers
