Dear All ,

I have a Remote Desktop session Host which is my application server and added to the domain.

I have a brand new HP LaserJet 700 M712 ,which i installed in local system using the Complete driver from HP.

Then the users is taking the RDP to the server from local system and this printer is showing redirected in remote desktop session for the user.

But when i trigger a print to this redirected printer nothing prints.

No error messages shows.

This is for some systems only not for all system

The OS of local system is Windows 7 Pro and Server is Windows server 2008 R2 standard.

I have tried lots of troubleshooting .Below are the steps

1 . Installed diffrent driver UPD PCL6 both in local system and server.

2 . Cleared the Print Spooler and restarted the spooler service

Please provide me any solution .

Server 2016 RDS User CAL downgrade to Server 2012 RDS User CAL

I have a retail "WINDOWS SERVER 2016 RDS CAL5 USER" product key which I want to apply to a server 2012 standard RDS License server. The license is a retail pack purchased through Dell

I know that I need to downgrade the license by ringing the Microsoft Clearing House in the UK (02031474930) , providing them my license server ID and my product key. I have tried this process at least 10 times now. Every time i call I provide the details to the agent over the phone, wait, they then tell me there was an error and connect me to the corporate licensing team. the corporate team then tell me they cannot help, they then usually either hang up, or transfer me back to the 1st team i spoke to, and I go round and round in circles.

I have also tried entering the code into the 2012 licensing server, it tells me the license code is invalid.

I have tried entering the code into a 2016 licensing server (just to test) and it accepts the code, so I know the code is valid for RDS 2016.

Is anyone able to tell me

A. can i actually downgrade a retail "WINDOWS SERVER 2016 RDS CAL5 USER" for use with server 2012. my understanding was that all RDS CALs are backwards compatible but not forwards.

B. is there some specific alternative team at Microsoft that I should be dealing with?

Microsoft support over the phone have been utterly horrendous, nobody takes ownership and I am left going round in circles.

I have spoken to Dell who have tried to help, even to the point of conference calling Microsoft with me, they too were appalled at Microsoft's customer service.

Am I doing something wrong or do i just need Microsoft to take ownership and sort this out?

Redirected printers not showing in Devices and Printer - unable to change defaults

We have a Windows Server 2012 Remote Desktop Server and are having problems with redirected printers on it. The problem occurs for users running the RDP client from Windows 7, 8 and 10.

Users are connecting over a WAN connection and are needing to print to their local network printers. The printers are connected successfully to their local workstations, and the option to redirect printers is selected in the RDP client. When users remote connect to the server the local printers show as available from within an application, such as Word, and they can print successfully using them, however they don't show in the Devices and Printers in the remote desktop session.

The problem is they want to change the default settings on the printer to be single-sided B&W and the default is Auto-color, double-sided. This can be changed manually from within the application but it doesn't stick once they log off and back on again.

Following the recommendation from this link:  https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/243942  I was able to change the defaults by going to the redirected printer in Devices and Printers and making the change under both Printing Preferences and Printing Defaults on the printers, then waiting for at least a minute before logging off and the settings are persistent for that user through a logoff and back on again.

We had major printing issues with this server and printers when using the Windows Easy Print driver as they constantly randomly never printed jobs, and Microsoft Support concluded we needed to disable using Windows Easy Print drivers first and load matching drivers on both the local workstation and the server. This resolved the problems they had re the non-printing, but it meant changes to the default settings had to be made on the redirected printer as above, as changing them on the local printer doesn't carry through the redirection.

I was able to configure the redirected printers at the time as they showed up in the Devices and Printers, but for some reason they don't any more. The changed defaults have stayed persistent for users that the change was made on, but they now want it made for new users. Also checking for existing users they no longer have the redirected printers showing up in Devices and Printers either.

There have been no changes to the server that I am aware of that would cause the printers to no longer show up. Directly attached printers show up OK, just not the redirected printer. Checking the device manager does show the print queue for the redirected printer, and as mentioned earlier, it's available to print to.

I thought perhaps copying the registry configuration of a working configured printer and loading that each time a user logs on to the Remote Desktop Server might be an option, but the redirected printers change the redirection number each time so they wouldn't match.

Any thoughts or suggestions about how to either get the redirected printers showing up again, or configure them for persistent defaults would be greatly appreciated.

RDS Users disconnect after a few minutes from a single subnet. session 14 has been disconnected, reason code 0 and code 5

Hello,

Users from a single location are experiencing major issues connecting to our RDS server. There are 3 locations, one main site where the server is location on the same subnet, another site south, and another site to the east. The south and east sites are connected with a VPN connection. Only users at the east site are not able to connect well to the server. I can check event viewer logs and I once saw something with winlogon stopping but I always see the error "session 14 has been disconnected, reason code 0" and "session 14 has been disconnected, reason code 5" from the east site subnet. I did a netstat to see that users are connecting with TCP 3389. An RD Gateway is not configured. I can connect to the RDS server for hours and have no problems. Error code 0 means No additional info is available and 5 means client's connection was replaced by another connection. I am not sure what would be doing this.

I was thinking like some kind of time but I sent all of the timeout settings on the server to never. I thought maybe it was a UDP socket timeout that was acting weird over that single connection but with netstat -a | findstr ":3389" I only see TCP ESTABLISHED sessions and only listening on UDP 3389.

Update KB3000850 is installed which replaced KB2984006 update for windows server 2012 R2 that fixes RDS issues like this. Clients are Windows 10.

Any help would be appreciated.

Mac RDP Client 10.2.8

We have a unique setup with RDP and our Gateway Servers. We have a set of high security hosts that we require on site presence to access. We accomplished this by using the "Bypass RD Gateway server for local addresses" option, and then preventing Gateway connections to these high security hosts. That way, if the user is on campus it will bypass the Gateway and connect, and if off campus, the user will be restricted from accessing the host.

With the release of Mac Remote Desktop 10.2.8, it appears that they default behavior of connecting to the hosts has changed. Previously, when clients launched a RemoteApp or desktop connection, the client would attempt to connect to the RDS Session host directly then fall back to attempt to connect via the RDS Gateway if the direct connection failed. With the 10.2.8 upgade, the client is never communicating directly with the RDS session host and is trying to immediately connect via the RDS Gateway. As we are blocking connections to some of our RDS session hosts via the RDS Gateway to ensure that they cannot be accessed from outside of our local networks, this behavior change with 10.2.8 has made these hosts completely inaccessible from that client.

Before we work on a potential re-architecture of our environment we want to clarify this is in fact a bug and not working as designed. The release notes for 10.2.8 have the line "Resolved connectivity issues that surfaced when using an RD Gateway" so it definitely appears something was changed. Any information you can provide would be welcome.

2019 RDS Connection Problems, Errors, Weirdness

$

I'm trying to set up 2019 RDS to replace our 2008R2 Terminal Server.  I used this paper as a guide, but did not publish any apps, just using session based desktops: https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Windows-Server-2016-Remote-ffc383fe

I have a broker server, gateway server, web server and two session hosts.  Licensing server is running on the broker server but not activated yet.  I also haven't enabled the gateway server yet as I'm just testing internally. So far I have just one collection pointing to one of the session host servers. We are not testing any remote apps, just session based desktops.

Here's the problem:

  • I'm able to initially get two users connected (either directly on the broker server, or through the Remote Desktop Web Access page) If a third tries to connect, it hangs at a black screen and eventually gives the message "failed to reconnect to your remote session.  Please try to connect again".  I would expect to see a message about not enough licenses or do you want to bump someone else off.
  • During the black screen time, and before the error message, the active two users get bumped off, but then automatically reconnect.
  • If I then log off one or both of the active users, I'm unable to log anyone into the server again.  They all get the black screen and the error message.  At this point I'm only able to log into the server on the console.  The only way to fix this is to reboot the broker server, and the cycle begins again.

Here's what shows up in the Event Viewer on the Broker server:

  • When active users get bumped out theTerminalServices-LocalSessionManager log shows an error like this: “Session 3 has been disconnected, reason code 3489660929”. Also shows reason codes 12 and 0.  Also get this error in the same log: “An error occurred when transitioning from CsrConnected in response to EvCsrInitialized. (ErrorCode 0x80070102)”

  • In the RemoteDesktopServices-RdpCoreTS Operational log, we get lots of weird errors:

-TCP socket READ operation failed, error 10054”; “RDP_TCP: An error was encountered when transitioning from StateUnknown in response to Event_Disconnect (error code 0x80072746).”;

-RDP_SEC: An error was encountered when transitioning from FStateProcessingData in response to FEventPostReceiveFailed (error code 0x80072746).”

-RDP_SEC: An error was encountered when transitioning from FStatePassthrough in response to FEventCheckAndCompleteReadsFailed (error code 0x8007139F)”.

-Failed InputMgr->GetHandles' in CUMRDPConnection::GetInputHandles at 4043 err=[0x80070102]”; “'GetInputHandles Failed' in CUMRDPConnection::GetInputHandles at 1401 err=[0x80070102]”

Here’s what I’ve tried:

  • All servers are updated
  • Removed and recreated my collection
  • Rebooted many times
  • Restarted the Windows Audio service
  • Tried both from the RD Web Access page and directly connecting to the Broker server
  • Tried disabling firewalls on all RDS servers

I’m kind of at a loss and it’s driving me bananas. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Changing password via RemoteApp logged on from an RDS Session

Hi,

We have users running a RemoteApp from a Server 2008R2 RDS Server.

For users running the RemoteApp on a Notebook or Desktop they can update their password using CTRL+ALT+END

Users running on thin clients that connect to an RDS Server that they run the RemoteApp on we are unable to use CTRL+ALT+END to change their passwords.  Instead it drops them out of the RemoteApp.

Can someone advise the process or requirements to reset the password via a RemoteApp running via an RDS session?

Cheers,

Sean

Revoke or Stop issuing Windows 2000 Server - Built-in TS Per Device CALs

$

We have a Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Server licensing Server in our environment. When checking the issued CALs in Remote desktop Licensing manager, i see Windows 2000 Server - Built-in TS Per Device CALs. I believe these are CALs which are issued by the Windows 2000 terminal Server itself to the Device or client.

My question is:

1. Is there a way to find out which Terminal Server is issuing the CALs or can we revoke the licenses?

2. Can we stop Issuing Windows 2000 Server TS CALs?

Help in this regards is much appreciated

Thank You

I have one physical server with 2 collections.

When a client try to connect to the second collection. Both collection doesn't work anymore till we restart the Remote Desktop Services on the Connection Broker server.

The client get this error : "This computer can't connect to the remote computer. The two computers couldn't connect in the amount of time allotted.  Try connecting again.  If the problem continues, contact your network administrator or technical support"

The first collection working pretty well untill any body tries to connect to the second collection.

Deploy Web Client with Session Hosts in Sub Domain

$

Hello there!

Tha last couple of days I created a Lab-Environment with 1 DC, a Remotemanger with Gateway, Licencing and Broker Role installed and a Session Host. After a little Troubleshooting everything worked great.

After that I created a second DC and a Subdomain and a second SessionHost as well. The Second SessionHost (SessionHost2) joined the Subdomain. I managed to add the SessionHost2 to the Remotemanger in the rootdomain and installed the Sessionhost Role.

At that point, I'm pretty much stuck. My users from the sub domain can connect via Web Client without any problems, but I can't open any apps from my collection. I get this error pretty much constantly:

2019-02-08T09:40:41.703Z Connection(ERR):

The connection generated an internal exception with disconnect code=ConnectionBroken(8), extended code=<null>, reason=WebSocket closed with code: 1006 reason: Thrown in thread 396952 at: websockettransport.cpp(330) Call Stack: at Rjb at Ojb at rp at Ugd

Now I tried pretty much everything I could think of. This all happens in the same Subnet with Windows Firewalls turned off.

Is this some kind of missing priviliges of the Subdomain-Users to authorize against the remotemanger in the root domain? Or is there a general Problem with a remotemanger in another domain as the session host?

For explanation: Iur company wants to offer hosted services in the future and wants to make sure, that different customers absolutely can't establish any connection to another company's hosts. If there is another way to acomplish that I would be very happy.

Thank you very much for your interest and input !

RDS Windows 2019 CALS are not getting issued to the users

$

Hello Expertiz,

I am experiencing a weird problem on my windows 2016 server.

I have only one server ( win 2016 datacenter) deployed on azure where in I have configured RDSH, RDCB, license and webaccess role. Till now I was running on 120 days trial period of license. Now I have purchased 15  win server 2019 CALS and installed the same. The problem here is, even though I have installed the CALS the server is not allowing me to connect more than 2 users and it throws an error " there are too many users signed in. Select a user to disconnect".

Licensing diagnoser displays no error. I can see green tick mark which says " RD Licensing diagnoser did not identify anylicensing problem for Remote desktop session host server".

RD licensing manager says "Total licenses =15 ", " Available licenses =15". " Issued = 0" . Here no licenses are not getting issued even though it has enough to distribute to the users.

I have tried all possible ways to fix this but no luck. Below are the few troubleshooting steps performed.

  • Applied group policy settings - Computer configuration - Administrative templates - windows components - remotes desktop services - remote desktop session host - licensing - use specified licensing server ( updated the FQDN name of the licensing server )
  •  Computer configuration - Administrative templates - windows components - remotes desktop services - remote desktop session host - licensing - set the remote desktop licensing mode ( set per user license)
  • Computer configuration - Administrative templates - windows components - remotes desktop services - remote desktop session host - connections - Limit number of connections ( set to 99999)
  • Gpupdate /force
  • But no luck. Hence I uninstalled the licensing role and re-configured from the scratch. But still the same issue.

Any suggestions to resolve my issue would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Mulge

cannot set client access name using Set-RDClientAccessName in single RDCB config

Hello. I've deployed new (testing) RDS deployment (1x WS2019 RDCB, 1x WS2019 RDWA, 1x WS2016 RDSH). I wanted to set client access name as we previously did in our older WS2016 RDS deployment (with HA RDCB) using Set-RDClientAccessName, but it is failing.

Running the command on the 2019 RDCB, it fails with:

PS C:\Users\admin> Set-RDClientAccessName -ConnectionBroker rdcb.ad.domain.com -ClientAccessName rds.domain.com -Verbose
Set-RDClientAccessName : The RD Connection Broker server is not configured for high availability.
At line:1 char:1
+ Set-RDClientAccessName -ConnectionBroker rdcb.ad.domain.com -Cli ...
+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    + CategoryInfo          : NotSpecified: (:) [Write-Error], WriteErrorException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : Microsoft.PowerShell.Commands.WriteErrorException,Set-RDClientAccessName

I've looked at currect documentation (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/remotedesktop/set-rdclientaccessname?view=win10-ps) and it says this works with non-HA RDCB config too. Has something changed for WS2019? Since the documentation hasn't been updated for WS2019.

delegate permission for enable/disable host

I have a typical RDS setup. I have a connection broker and 5 hosts. I manage the system. One of the hosts is just for our dev environment. We are mostly using remoteapp.

I want to delegate permission so our dev users can only enable/disable an RDS host to accept new connect for a particular host.

I don't want to give them the ability to do enable/disable the rest of the production hosts. They will be doing this through the gui or through PowerShell.

thanks!
