RDS 2012R2 Issue

$

1.We have installed RDS (RDCB, RDSH, RDWeb) on one host. RDS service is working well without any errors. But if we open Server Manager->RDS we're getting "A Remote Desktop Services deployment does not exist in the server pool.
To create a deployment, run the Add Roles and Features Wizard and select the Remote Desktop Services installation option."

2. We get the same error after Get-RDServer - "The RD Connection Broker server is not available"

3. If we add Roles-> RDS Installation, the next error - "could not retrieve the deployment information from the rd connection broker"

4. If we add this server to Server Manager on another host we receive - "Kerberos Security Issue". All hosts was added to Trusted.

All RDS services are running (including WID). ServerManager and Posh running by Administrator.

How to resolve it?

RDS with Azure Load Balancing

Hi Folks,

I was testing out the solution provided by MS in one artciles to configure RDGW/WEb access server behind Azure LB but was confused with step3.https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/remote/remote-desktop-services/rds-rdweb-gateway-ha

Scenario: RDS GW/Web Access in HA running behind a Standard Azure Public Load balancer..The solution works good  but If i start restricting the traffic via NSG...the only way rd Gateway/WI URL works publicly  is if i put the
source :Internet;destination : IPs of my RDS GW/WebAccess Servers; port :443...

Ideally, shouldn't it be working if i enable the port 443 from outside network to the IP of Public Load balancer (behind which actually are my RD GW/Web Access servers)or Am i doing something wrong?...
If it works by allowing port 443 to internal IP of RD GW/Web Access server ,isnt it a  secrutiy risk?
Please let me know if somebody can help out to clear the confusion

Hello!

We have two Connection Broker servers using DNS round robin. Yesterday i saw that our RD host servers have alot of Audit Failure events (4625) in the Security log.

It looks like our CB servers are trying to logon with it's computer account to the RD Host. This happend multiple times per day and when it does it's looks like it's spamming login attempts, up to 10 times per second. Please take a look at the following look example:

Remote Desktop session establish problem

Dear concern,

I am using 200 RDS Device CALs. I am using 2 RDS server in workgroup environment. I installed RDS host and licensing role in my one server and installed 200 RDS CALs in this server. Also installed RDS host role in another server and map of the first one server as it's licensing server via local policy. Users randomly connect to these two server via Remote Desktop. Licensing server shown the 200 device CAL in console but when user connect to RDS server via thin client (non Microsoft endpoint) they can establish connection only for one hour and got a warning message"There is a problem with your license for Remote Desktop and the session will end in 60 minutes. Contact your system administrator to resolve this issue"then user forcibly disconnected. I had seen two things that RDS server didn't assign temporary license for thin client user and RDS license not count down, it fixed on 200.

Please response me ASAP.

Thanks,

Babu

NPS Azure MFA working for RDWeb but not RDC

Single RDS gateway 2016.  Both RDweb and RDC point to same Gateway. We have NPS extention configured.

When we login on to RDweb we get the MFA prompt from Ms Auth

When we log on to the same GW via RDC the logon never gets to NPS for MFA.

I am trying to ID the issue. RDweb is aware and looks to the NPS CAP store. But RDC seem oblivious. How do these two authenticate differently? Any ideas on how to troubleshoot to ID and resolve?

I have even remove NPS completely and rebuilt but same issue. So I am convinced the issue is w. RDC/RDGW and not the NPS/MFA side of things.

Thanks,

Office 365 Activation prompts on Server 2016 RDS Host

Platform

  • Server 2016 Session Host
  • Office 365 Pro Plus 2016

Hello

We successfully installed Office 2016 Prop Plus on to the session host some months ago. We have a random problem that has occurred twice now, where a user is prompted toactivate the product when they open a document first thing in the morning. The user can successfully activate the product by signing in. But if they close all products, they are promoted to  activate again when opening any of the products. The only way I could fix this for the first user a few months ago was to delete the profile  including the UPD.  The issue has begun again for anther user, and I'm trying to find a solution. There are other people having this issue out there in tech land, but with no firm answers that I can find.

Many Thanks

Is it possible to change default rdp file for a specific published app on Remote Desktop Server 2016

Hey everyone,

I have a Remote Desktop 2016 Farm running published apps

The Windows 10 Clients inherit the dpi settings from the local computer to the published app that they execute, but that function does not work with Windows 7.

I know it is possible to change the default dpi and resolution settings from “rdweb\pages\Application Settings” for all published applications.

Does anyone know if it is possible to change screen or dpi resolution for a single published app?

Best regards
Carsten

I have a windows Server 2016 terminal server installed in my test environment with an activated license but the server keeps getting rebooted and i did not configure it.  Any idea what this could be?

RDS 2012 R2 and corrupt user profile disks (UPD)

$

Hi!

I have a setup with two RDS 2012 R2 servers and one 2012 R2 server with a share for User Profile Disks.

It's normally running fine but sometimes some profiles gets corrupted and it's a mess to clean up. Also the old profile disk is useless which is strange.

I remove the profiles from the local RDS server (c:\users\username) and also from registry. But I have to also delete existing profile disk, it won't load again. That's a problem as I then have to spend time restoring data from the profile (I have to mount it and copy data).

Does anyone know of a fix ? It's a very time consuming and annoying problem......

RDS Licensing Questions

OS in question Server 2016 and Server 2019

If we have a 2019 Remote Desktop Server and it has 20 RDS User Client Access Licenses. All 20 users have logged in at some point and consumed a License. Then a 21st person logs in.   What Happens?

Do the old users eventually still drop off if they have not connected?

Is there a Manual way to Assign/deassign a License to a user?

Terminal Services Licensing Errors Windows Server 2012 R2

Can you offer up some suggestions regarding the following System log events? We are seeing these errors frequently on the Windows Server 2012 R2 server which is hosting the Remote Desktop license server.

1. Are these warnings and errors concerning and require action to correct? If so what steps?

2. What end user experience symptoms (other than the posted messages to System log) would we expect to see?

In addition, I can confirm that, per instructions in event 4105, the license server is not a domain controller and the computer account is a member of the built-in "Terminal Server License Servers" group.

A similar question TechNetForumTopicTechNetForumQuestionSysAdminTipBlog, and MsITprosBlog refers to a solution involving old accounts for long-term employees who are appearing in event 4105. I have validated that many of them are old enough that they likely existed back when this domain was at the 2003 functional level (it is now at the 2012 level). However, these users are not reporting any symptoms, so the event 4105 seems to not cause any downside other than logging the event. (Which goes back to my original questions, what symptom effect should we be seeing?)

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Deployment overview is set to "Per User", but Licencing Diagnoser says the server is in "Per Device" mode.

I'm in the midst of setting up a Server 2016 RDS deployment and as far as I can tell I have everything right, but I'm having a licencing issue.

For now, until I know everything is set up correctly I have just 5 "per user" CALs installed. They installed without any errors.

In the Deployment Properties the RD Licensing was set to "Per User". The licensing server listed is the correct one, and the 'per user' cals are installed on the correct server.

However, when I run the "Licencing Diagnoser", it says that the server is in "Per Device" mode.

Reinstalling the licences has not helped. I'm not sure what to do, I'd hate to have to re-do the whole deployment.

Can Server 2019 RDS use a 2016 RDS CAL

$

I have a Windows 2016 RDS license server with "Windows Server 2016 - Installed RDS Per User CAL" licenses installed on it.  I want to use this for Windows 2019 RDS connections.  Will 2019 use these CALs?  If not, what do I do?

1) Do I have to build a new server 2019 RDS license server and migrate my licenses?  Assuming the migrated licenses are backwards compatible with 2008R2, 2012R2, and 2016.

or

2) Can I use my existing 2016 RDS license server and "upgrade my existing" licenses?  Assuming the upgraded licenses are backwards compatible with 2008R2, 2012R2, and 2016.

or

3) Can I use my existing 2016 RDS license server and add NEW CALS that are specific for 2019.  Will that violate my license agreement because I now have double the licenses I own (x amount of the original and x amount added for 2019).

Thanks

Users CAL Pool for RDS

Hello,
I have a SPLA contract with RDS licenses per user. I have to declare 1 license each time a user logs on to the service.
I would like to know if I can do the following: declare a license pool for a specific AD group. For example: 10 users in an AD group with the right to 4 simultaneous licenses. I can create my 10 users, but declare a maximum of 4 licenses actually used per month.

Is it possible to do this via the RDS license manager and AD groups?

Thank you

Remote Procedure Call Failed and did not execute message while Explorer.exe is launched

$

HI,

We have an RD Server (2008R2) in production that is used by about 20-25 users on a daily basis. Recently, some of the users are getting this error when they try to lunch Explorer.exe from their desktop. "Remote procedure call failed and did not execute". And Explorer cannot be started.

Not all of the users are getting this message, only 1 user might have the problem while others don't seem to have any issues. The problem might go away after 10-15 minutes of waiting and explorer.exe can be launched again.

When this happened for the first time, I just restarted the server and we did not see the problem again for almost 2-3 weeks but here it comes again.

I'm running out of ideas and your helps will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
