Hi All,

I have a Win2012R2 server and have remote apps services.

I have publish it to client to use but some of them say it is trouble to login two times (Login RDWEB and remote desktop client).

May I know if we can by pass the authorization of RDWEB and direct show all icon on the web?

I find Win2008 has this on remote apps but not sure it can be on win2012R2.

May I know signle sign-on can let the user to use domain account for the remote desktop?

is it need to trust the website's cert, set IE option to logon and edit the group policy to allow delgration to use exist account to login?

Thanks a lot.

Best Regards,

RDSH 2012 Intermittent freezing with ThinClient RDP version 8

We recently built a 3 node RDSH 2012 farm with a connection broker. We also started piloting test users on this farm. We are seeing the following strange behavior:

  • Connections with Win10 (RDP10) are smooth and working fine the whole day
  • Connections with ThinClients (RDP8) intermittently freeze and have a black screen but will recover after a few seconds or minutes

Has anybody else seen this before? We believe it is due to either the RDP8 or some settings in the mstsc console that will cause this. Before one by one checking all the available settings and possibilities I wanted to check with you to see if anyone experienced a similar issue and potentially has some advice.

RDS 2012 R2 and Outlook 2013 Session

Hi,

I have run into a problems regaring Outlook attachment on our RDS 2012 R2.

If a user starts outlook, create a new e-mail and use the button "Attach file" thing goes SLOW.
The user will try to attach a file from his home directory(network share) Z:\something(pdf or word).
A dialog pop up is showen:
Laster ned(norwegian) = Downloading.
For a file on 81 kB takes around 10 secounds.

BUT! if a try to "drag-drop" the same file into to the e-mail it goes Instant!

this problem only happens when the user try to use the Attachment buttton in Outlook:

I did run a test on my local computer to a network share and every thing is fine there.
so i think this is only related to the RDS.

About the user:
- YES the user have folder redirect. redirecting to his home directory. (Appdata is not redirected)

- This have worked before

- The Folder z:\ is located on a Filserver with all the permission needed.

This have been done.

  • - Restart of the server
  • Updateing Windows server 2012 R2 to lates patch
  • updating Office 2013 pro Plus
  • Disable Addons
  • Disable antivirus
  • Trying to start in safe mode.

If any one have run into this problems before on RDS please replay.

all the best

RemoteApps not refreshing in RDWeb - RDS 2012 R2

$

Hi folks,

We have just installed a new RDS environment without any HA roles (just single Connection Broker, RD Web, RD Session Host). Everything is working well.

The issue we now have is, that RDWeb not refreshes the assigned apps in a proper time. If we add users to an AD Group for assigning the RemoteApp it takes 10-15 minutes to get the apps visible on RDWeb.

First we thought to have some AD replication issues but there are no errors. So we started to investigate. If we do a IISreste /noforce on the RDWeb Server, all the published applications are appearing or disappearing immediatelydepending on the membership of the AD Groups.

Any suggestion on this?

Cheers,
Al

Remote Desktop Services Deployment Ports

$

Hi,

I'm in an environment where the firewall is very strict (as in every port is closed unless requested to be opened).

When deploying my 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Farm through PowerShell I'm getting to the point where I am making the Session Host server a member of a Farm using this code:

##Imports Remote Desktop Services Module to enable config of RDS
Import-Module RemoteDesktopServices

##Configures Remote Desktop Server to be a member of a Farm
cd RDS:\RDSConfiguration\ConnectionBrokerSettings
$IP = dir -Path RDS:\RDSConfiguration\ConnectionBrokerSettings\RedirectableAddresses
Set-Item ServerPurpose -value 3 -ConnectionBroker "BROKER-Server" -FarmName "FARM NAME" -IPAddressRedirection 1 -CurrentRedirectableAddresses $IP.name

When running this is get an error stating that access is denied. If I open up all TCP Ports to the Broker it works, so I'm wondering if anyone knows which ports its using. I have done some research and found this article: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/16164.which-ports-are-used-by-a-rds-2012-deployment.aspx I know this is for 2012 R2 but I cant find anything for 2008 R2. I've opened these ports and it still doesn't work, so I must be missing something.

Any clues would be greatly appreciated....

Cheers,

Chris

Publishing Web application recommendation

Hi!

We have a hyper-v HP Server with Nvidia GPU which we need to use for publishing a web application on a VM. As per our knowledge it is not possible to assign GPU to VMs having Server OS. In this case we have two options, either we create separate windows 8.1 Enterprise VMs for every user who needs to use that application or we install the GPU on a separate physical server, install windows server OS and use Remote Desktop Services to let users use that application.

Which option is better and is there any other solution. The application is highly graphical and needs a good VGA. That's why we decided to let users use it directly on the server.

Thanks.

Losing connection to RDS server when working at home and at the office

$

Good day,

Some users are sometimes losing their RDP connection after mere minutes, even when the connection has been re-established

The network speeds of a user at home are:

-30 Mbps Down
-39 Mbps Up

We have a policy saying that 'we don't support people that work at home' but it still makes me curious since the problem persists when people are working at the office.

Thanks in regard!

2012 R2 RDS Temporary Profile issue

$

I have set up a standard 3 node 2012 R2 RDS for testing. All virtualized on VMware ESXi 5.0. I have a connection Broker, session host, and web access server. I have published several applications and I can access them without a problem. Here is my issue:

When I try to log on to my session host server either locally or thru RDP, I am always logged in with a Temporary profile. It does not mater what user account I use. Even logging on locally as the administrator I get a temporary profile.

All windows updates are installed and current.

I have removed the server from the domain, deleted the account, and rejoined it to the domain.

I have deleted all .bak registry entries from here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

There is a hotfix here for a similar issue on 2012 but it does not apply to 2012 R2

The only event viewer errors are:

1515 (Windows has backed up this user profile. Windows will automatically try to use the backup profile the next time this user logs on.)

1511 (Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.)

Any suggestions to resolve would be greatly appreciated.

2012 R2 RemoteApp - Basic Theme issue

Hi All

I refer to this article below, is there a fix from MS for this issue?

We are reviewing migration from Citrix to RemoteApp, but this is causing a reluctance in change.

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/44f33bd6-aa45-48cb-b886-352330e3f47c/win2012-std-basic-theme-problem-?forum=winserver8gen

Hello,

Somehow Windows Basic Theme broken, hyperlinks are changed to yellow, I cant event read text on menus. Also RDP users have same problem when they connect. How can I fix it ?

I installed Desktop Experience, and with Aero theme its ok on administrator RDP , but other users on RDP have same problems.

I resolved this by following:

  • I've just tried this (thank you Saad)

Open %windir%\Resources. Change security properties of the "Themes" folder and give full control permission to your account. Enable inheritance to apply this setting for all sub folders, or, open "Themes" folder, and give full control permission to your account on file "basic.theme".

This first step will allow you to modify the "basic.theme" file

    - On "Themes" folder, right click "basic.theme" and click "open with". Choose Notepad.

    - Click on ctrl+f and search for "aerolite.msstyles". Once you find it, replace it by "aero.msstyles".

    - Save this. After that, go on control panel - personalization, apply a theme randomly, then reapply the Windows Basic theme.

This indeed worked for me, however somehow I think this isn't a true root cause resolution and am waiting for it to bite me later....

Many thanks

RDS Gateway 2008R2/2012/2012R2 not working with Windows 10?

$

We're receiving reports that non domain-joined clients running Windows 10 are having issues accessing desktops over RDP that use a RDS gateway. Everything is working fine with Windows 7/8.1 clients. Receiving generic error message

"Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because the Remote Desktop Gateway server is temporarily unavailable"...

Event viewer has warning: "An error was encountered when transitioning from AAStateCreatingOutChannel to AAStateError in response to AAEventOutChannelSendRequestFailed (error code 0x8019012E).

Others seem to have issue as well: https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/1099336-windows-10-rds-gateway-error

Any idea? how can we fix?

Thanks

Port 3389 not listening

$

Windows Server 2003R2. Terminal Services is installed and started. Remote Desktop is Enabled. In the Terminal Services Manager session window, RDP-TCP is shown as being in a listening state. But when I run netstat -a, port 3389 does not show up. RD client cannot connect. Telnet or ssh to that port does not connect.

TCP is working fine: I can use logmein to view the server; I can VPN to the server, I can look at SMB shares once the VPN is up. No TCP filtering is active. The Windows Firewall is not active.

How can I get port 3389 going and be able to RDP in?

The registry is still showing port 3389 as the listening port.

I have removed and re-created the RDP-tcp port without any trouble and without success. The properties are set on defaults.

Remote Desktop devices in the device manager show as operating fine.

It used to work fine and just recently (sometime in January) it stopped working. As far as I know, no new software was installed at that time.

I have reviewed a bunch of stuff found in Google but none of it seems to help, so far.

Term Services 2012R2 Multiple session collections on one Broker Server

$

I have built a Term Services deployment  for my sales department and has been running very well for 6 months. I am adding a second session collection for my finance department and am not sure how to handle DNS entries for my remote clients. I do not understand how the broker will send users to correct collection. Do I setup a DNS round robin entry for each session collection?

If so that has caused issues before with older deployments as the connection gets cached and when server is removed from deployment it causes issues with users trying to connect.

Any help would be appreciated.

RDC Server 2008R2 Some users waiting for session manager

This morning two of six users are unable to RDC into TS. The "Please wait for local session manager" hangs. Only two users are getting this, all are using the same RDP methods and port. Event logs are showing 6005 and 6006 errors.  All 6 users are members of RDP group in AD. On attempt to login with one user at console, it logs off immediately upon login with no events of note.

Server 2012 r2 and RDP 8

$

This has been driving us nuts for weeks. We have HP T520 Thin Clients that worked fine to use RDP on a Server 2008. We upgraded to Server 2012 and now only 2 or 3 people can use RDP and the next person that tries will restart the server. Makes no sense. Only happens on the thin client.

There has to be something in Server 2012 that wasn't in 2008??     I have tried researching a lot of things.    RDP is version 8 and was an older version when we were on Server 2008.

We can still today, revert back to the 2008 terminal servers thru RDP and things work fine.   As soon as we try a new 2012 terminal server............   Same problem.

User connections are not restricted.

Bottom line. What is set in Server 2012 by default that is not in Server 2008 that could cause connection issues

Because of a protocol error detected at the client (code 0x1104)

$

I just received a rebuilt DELL M6800 Laptop from our Service desk with Windows 8.1 Pro installed, this is to replace my old Windows 7 laptop. As a System Administrator for database systems on over 100+ servers, being able to RDP is a critical function of my job. After receiving the laptop and doing a few preliminary checks (i.e. updates, etc.) I attempted to execute an RDP connection and received the following pop-up:

Because of a protocol error detected at the client (code 0x1104), this session will be disconnected.
Please try connecting to the remote computer again.

I am unable to locate any events in the standard logs and I find the following in a Microsoft sub-log:

Source TerminalServices-ClientActiveXCore
Channel Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-RDPClient/Operational

RDP ClientActiveX has been disconnected (Reason= 4356)

I have been unable to locate any information concerning these specific codes and have attempted every fix I could find for not being able to connect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am about to pull the pistol and run diskkill and re-install the OS, have a feeling there is a ghost in the machine from a previous owner.

Microsoft Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Pooled Desktops not rolling back

$

0

Hi all,
Thanks for taking the time to read.
We have 7 servers configured for our testing of Microsoft's Virtual Desktop solution.
All servers are Windows 2012 standard (x64) with roles installed as follows:-

1 x Web+Gateway
1 x Broker
3 x Virtual Desktop Host
2 x Session Host

All servers are fresh installs with roles configured with no apparent issues.

Via the web frontend the RemoteApps via the session hosts work perfectly and indeed the Virtual desktops also work OK apart from them not rolling back to the RDV_ROLLBACK snapshot.

* The Virtual Desktop OS is Windows 7 Pro (x86).
* VM Template created with all windows updates and KMS client key.
* Firewall disabled on the desktop.
* Template SYSPREPed using OOBE, shutdown and Generalize options.
* Pooled Virtual Desktop collection created successfully with Rollback enabled from the shutdown SYSPREPed template.

The pool creation is actually only successful if I add the computer account for the Broker to the local admins group on the RDVHost server. I'm wondering if that could be a clue to the problem I am having with the Rollback?

If I do not add the broker to the local admins group I get an error stating the following:-

"Could not identify the state of the virtual desktop. Ensure the RD Virtualization host server SERVERNAME is available on the network and that the virtual desktop PRC-Template is shut down."

To clarify - the RD Virtualization host server IS available on the network as its the very same server I am using to generate the new collection, ie its the one that holds the template and is the one I am working on. The PRC-Template IS shut down after the SYSPREP.

We have our servers configured on one VLAN and the Virtual Desktops are available on another. Even if I create them temporarily on the same VLAN as the servers the collection creation and Rollback problem still exists.

I know there is at least one other thread on here where someone else is having similar issues with the template but its the Rollback issue that's my main concern at the moment.

Apologies for muddling with 2 issues but I am genuinely not sure whether or not they are related.

What logs do I need to be looking at to work out whether Rollback is actually being attempted and if so why is it failing.

I have checked the various TerminalServices-TSV, Hyper-V and Rdms-UI logs on the servers but cannot see anything obvious but of course I may have missed something.

What is it that triggers the rollback, at logoff what actually happens in order to kick off that process?

Incidently I can manually rollback to the RDV_ROLLBACK snapshot without any errors.

Many Thanks for any help and advice you may be able to offer.

Lynton
