Bug Report - Web Access Login with certain characters in password cause browser error "Server Error in '/RDWeb/Pages' Application"

$

I have found that since trying a certain password logging into the Web Access for RDS 2012 R2, an error is generated.
It doesn't crash the server it just causes an error for the user logging in.
Sign in either as with domain\username, or upn, and using the password ")<bJKq<5" without the quotes, doesn't report wrong password but instead gives the error "Server Error in '/RDWeb/Pages' Application"

This happens whether you enter the password for anyone trying to login.

RDP (Remote Desktop) to Windows 10 without passwords not possible anymore. Bug or feature?

After upgrading two of my machines to Windows 10 (Education N clean install and Pro N upgrade from Win8.1), I was not able to set up Remote Desktop as I was used to since Windows 7 (maybe this was possible before, too).

I am used to configure Windows to allow RDP connections as a user without password (home usage only). Apparently this is not working anymore after upgrading to Windows 10. (I have enabled this by modifying secpol.msc 's security policies. Further informations provided if needed).

With the "no password" setup i get immediatly disconnected by the local machine which seems to auto login by itself after connecting via RDP. The only solution I managed to find so far was to set up a password.

Is this a bug or a feature?

Cheers

File Type Association for new Users

Hi.

The issue is quite simple and I don't know why Microsoft gives nothing for this.

I have Remote Desktop Session Host and RemoteApp. My users start Application via RemoteApp. They need to open JPG or TIFF file in this Application. There is graphic view application on the server. But I can not set File Type Association for this files. GPO (Folder OPtions) - Result: Success, but doesn't work. CMD "ASSOC" and "FTYPE" Success but also have no effect.

So the question is "How to set file type association on RDP Server 2012?".

I suggest to use default profile. I mean, every time new user logs on server, new profile is created and system takes basic default association. Do you know, where it is?

Office Suite in Load Balancing

RDS 2012 R2 with a GW and 2 SH's. We have office installed on each of the session hosts and the SH's are load balanced. I had a user report to me that a document they had created and stored in Documents (on the SH) could not be found when using the recently viewed documents in word (on the left side). So here is what i found: when they created the document, they were on SH 1 and thus saved to SH 1 in the documents. Another time when they used word, they landed on SH 2 and when they tried to open the document, they got the error about not being able to find the document. I just browsed to the correct SH where the document resides and opened it from there but users shouldn't be doing that. How do you overcome this issue? Should office be load balanced?

2012 RDS and publishing full desktop and lockdown

Hi.

I have a lot of customers that today run thinclients against 2008/2008R2 RDS and full desktop, not remoteapps.
I'm working on a proof of concept for the 2012 RDS. I have made a Farm with one RCB and two Session Hosts. I have made a collection and set up DNS.
The farm is alive and I can log onto the servers with users.

What was missing in 2008 R2, and what is missing even more in 2012 seems to be a way to pin items to the taskbar and / or startmenu. Is it possible to publish apps to the new startmenu? Any possibility to customize it at all? So far I can't find any...

Hi Guys,

I have a strange issue with a Terminal server that's setup to run RemoteApps.

I need to use RDP to remote in to run other programs and get the following

"Error - The system cannot find the file specified.  This initial program cannot be started: C:\shared\databuild data\conquest.exe"

and then when you click ok, it logs off straight after.

I cant figure this one out.  Any help will be appreciated.

The computer can't verify the identity of the RD Gateway Server. It's not safe to connect to servers that can't be identified.

Hello all,

I'm attempting to setup TS Gateway in an environment.  After configuring Terminal Services, the RDC client, etc, etc.... I receive the error message stated in my subject line.

Here is the setup:

-External facing router with IP address of (not real) 10.10.10.1
-TS Gateway server named TS.SERVER.COM
-Edited the hosts file on the client to include an entry for 10.10.10.1 as TSG.SERVER.COM

I created the certificate for TS.SERVER.COM and specified it in TS Gateway Manager.

The RDC client is configured on a laptop (Windows 7):

'General' tab > 'Logon Setting' > 'Computer': TS.SERVER.COM
'Advanced' tab > 'Settings' > 'Use these RD Gateway server settings' > 'Server Name': TSG.SERVER.COM --- (ask for password)

Upon attempting to connect, I get the error message and have the ability to view the certificate.  It pulls the certificate information from the TS Gateway server, but when I click 'View Certificate', I see 'Windows does not have enough information to verify this certificate'.  So, just for S&G's, I exported and imported the certificate to the TS client and still got the error message.

I have never used Windows 7 as the TS client, but I am curious if there are any compatibility issues since the RDC client asks for RD Gateway information and not TS Gateway specifically.  I know they are essentially the same thing, but RD Services is a bit different than TS in Server 2008 R2.

Can anyone provide any guidance?  Hoping I'm missing something as opposed to compatibility issues.

Thanks in advance,

MDH

Windows Server 2012 R2 - The task you are trying to do can't be completed because Remote Desktop Services is currently busy

The error:

The task you are trying to do can't be completed because Remote Desktop Services is currently busy. Please try again in a few minutes. Other users should still be able to log on.

Well-documented for win2008R2, but the error is related to.. Win 2012R2

No Gateway, no Broker.. only a single WIn2012R2 RDS Server, all users connected using TCP/3389

Running on amazon EC2, accessible by VPN IPSec, 32 GB of RAM, less than 20 users.

There´s no pattern, even users with 200MB of RAM in use by the session (as seen in task manager) but also user with 1 GB of RAM used. Users with a few proccess opned, but also users with more than 20 process opened. SOmetimes happens with users logged on for a few minutes or users logged on for a few days.

Plenty of RAM available, full of resources in OS

Even if the users waits for many hours, the system is still busy. All RDP clients running WIndows 7 PLUS the latest RDC 8.1 update

There is no disconnection timeout, users could be connected as much as they want. Users runs reports that can take many hours to complete, so a timeout will disturb the user´s workday

What i´ve being doing: I open the task manager and i force LOGOFF the user, after less than 30 seconds the user sessio disappear from task manager and the user could connect again

Windows Server RDP License

Hi All

We have a client on a cloud server running their database software. We have 3 users and we have installed Remote Desktop Services.

Our hosting provider have dialed into the server and activated the 3 RDP CALS and everything worked fine. Now it's showing we have expired the 120 days grace period and we need to complete the configuration.

The odd thing is I didn't realise we had to do anything else. After speaking with the host again they say the cloud server needs to be connected to a domain, at the moment it's on a WORKGROUP as the client only has 3 concurrent RDP Connections at any one time.

Is the set wrong here, for the time being we have reactivated the 120 grace period.

Server Standard 2012R2 Remote Desktop Redirected Printer Stops Printing error 372 Win32 error 2147500037

All of a sudden all RDS users cannot print on any redirected printers on a Windows Server 2012R2 (Local, not AD DC).  Printers appear on server devices and printers.  Print jobs appear in queue on server, then on local device, but disappear from queues without printing.  Behavior the same for multiple computers, Windows 7, and 8, all users, including administrators.  Easy Print installed.  Working on this for hours with no luck. Any help or suggestions appreciated!

Optimize Start Menu Cache Files

Hi,

We have setup a brand new Remote Desktop Services farm with 10 Session Hosts for 200 users.

Now we see the Task 'Optimize Start Menu Cache Files xxx(SID)' for about 200 times on every Session Host server.

These can be deleted but they return whenever a user logs onto a specific Session Host server.

How can this be prevented?

This has been addressed in another thread (http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-performance/how-do-i-permanently-delete-this-task-scheduler/0fd8f7a0-c182-45c1-ad42-f02d768cb295), but the solution there would be to stop the Tasks individually of stop the Task Scheduler. Both are obviously not what I, or anyone else, want.

RDS in an external untrusted domain

Hello,

Can someone advise me on this very particular scenario please?

I have set up an RDS gateway and host server on domain A and all the relevant policies and additional configuration, published applications and I can access everything through the RDS gateway Web access all working perfectly.J

Now I have to allow access to the RDS gate for domain B which has a 1 way non transitive trust in the direction A to B.

Research suggested I need to install a Central NPS server in domain B. I have done this and configured basic CAP and RAP policies to test connectivity.

When I log into the RDS web Access server I can no longer see any applications published and furthermore when I try to connect through the Gateway server to the host server I receive an error message, “your user account is not authorized to use the RD gateway”

Ok my question is this: Is it possible to use an RD gateway on an external domain when the trust level is a 1 way non transitive trust from domain A to domain B? I noticed that some advice is to add the gateway to the RAS and IAS server group but the internal domain B cannot see the servers in domain A so this is not possible.

Note: Domain A trusts domain B External Non transitive Domain A functional level 2008 R2 domain B 2003, NPS server 2008 R 2 Standard edition

Server 2012 RDS - User Profile Disks - Errors during Logoff

$

I have set up a test Server 2012 RDS collection (Single Server for now) and implemented User Profile disks.

I have two problems.

First: My generic test user can connect and does successfully use the user profile disk as expected. However, atlogoff, the system event log contains these errors:

The error (NTFS 137) is: The default transaction resource manager on volume C:\Users\ts3.test encountered a non-retryable error and could not start.  The data contains the error code.

The warning (NTFS 50) that concerns me is:

It appears that the user profile disk is being "disabled" or "disconnected" before the profile data is completely written at logoff. What can I do to troubleshoot this?

Second:

Update: A post from Mike Connor on the following page: -LINK- solved the problem described below.

My administrative user always logs on now with a temporary profile. At the beginning, the UPD was working and mounting. That stopped working. In attempting to troubleshoot, I logged the admin user off and deleted the UPD disk file from the share. I remember it working again after generating a new UPD disk file in the share. Soon, it quit working again. I deleted the UPD disk file again from the share and ever since, it has never regenerated a new UPD andalways logs on with a temporary profile.
