Server 2012r2 unpin from taskbar file explorer

$

I have asked this question on several forums now with no luck, so maybe someone here can give me some help??? I don't understand why this is so difficult... Some one on the powershell forum said to try this, but it didn't work either...

 ----------------------------------

$sa = new-object -c shell.application
$pn = $sa.namespace($env:windir).parsename('explorer.exe')
$pn.invokeverb('taskbarunpin'

-------------------------------

So here is my post again......

Hello, I have tried this on a few different forums including server 2012 general... Is there a powershell script to unpin file explorer for all new users when they log in on a rds/citrix session but still allows me to use my powershell script to pin our companies icons to the taskbar as we have it setup in the all users startup? Here is my post from another forum...

I posted this on the server group and got a few replies but no one was able to help me and the MVP said I should try here.

All I am trying to do is:

Server 2012r2, I use classic shell to lock down most of it and it works fine. I have file explorer left that is pinned to the taskbar. I would like to get rid of it altogether for every

user that logs on.

1.) I don't want to use the GPO to do this as it doesn't allow anything to be pinned afterwards and I have a vbs in the all user startup that points to powershell needs to pin our default apps. So all I need

is something to remove file explorer at logon..

1.) I have tried to use the same powershell and added the file explorer.lnk  to the remove apps part and that didn't work.

2.) I have tried another powershell written to remove apps from taskbar but it didn't work either... I tried off this forum the one that was reposted by syntax 53 who altered it to reflect taskbar..

http://www.tenforums.com/customization/21002-how-automatically-cmd-powershell-script-unpin-all-apps-start.html

I put the above in the gpo user startup powershell scripts... Didn't work

3.) I logged in to server as myself and got the taskbar to be empty went to regedit opened hkcu.......taskband, exported that out put it in our scripts folder on the server and

then went to the gpo users startup bat and added he line   Regedit.exe /S C:\Scripts\TaskBand.reg....   That still didn't do it for me.. (I tried this option twice as the first time I forgot

to clear out the user profile off the profile server and start with a fresh one)

4.) This was interesting and was almost there, but it stopped short of getting rid of file explorer..

http://clintboessen.blogspot.com/2014/12/remove-power-shell-and-server-manager.html

I am to my wits end on this... Can someone tell me how to get rid of file explorer off the taskbar but still let me have the ability to run the powershell to pin the default apps which happens from script in the all users startup?

========================

If I can't have that happen is there a way to have file explorer only show the users z:drive?  home directory? That would be acceptable....

On that note, on our 2008r2 servers we have the document folder pointing to z.... I can't get that to happen in server 2012r2... Is there something different you have to do for that

in 2012r2?   So if I can get file explorer and documents folder to go to z, then I would be good with that...

Thanks.

RDS certificate are not renewed automatically

Hi,

We have 3 RDS servers and this is the 2nd time this issue has been happening. We have these servers setup since February 2015 and we never had this problem until this summer.

Last month, users were not longer able to connect to 1 of the 3 RDS servers and was caused by the fact that the RDP certificate had expired so my co-worker remove it, restarted the Remote Desktop Connection service and everything worked fine.

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee890902%28v=ws.10%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

Today, this happened again with another RDS server.

What is the best way to fix this ? I definitely don't want to fix this again in 6 months and I refuse to believe that the best solution would be to do a script that will delete the certificate each 5-6 months and restart the Remote Desktop Connection service at night.

Remote Desktop Connection Manager 2.7 on high resolution screens

hi, i just got a lenovo yoga which has a 3200x1900 resolution screen.  rdp does not render the desktop big enough on a high resolution screen and is unusable.  I was happy to find rdcm 2.2 handles the high resolution fine. but when i upgraded to rdcm 2.7, the remote desktop is much to small to be usable again.

I have played with resolution setting in rdp/rdcm but the problem is the desktop icons are just too small.  I finally back-rev'd to 2.2

does anyone know how i can report this bug to the developer?  or if you know of a way to make 2.7 it work on high resolution screen....

thanks in advance

to be clear, the problem is that on a 3200x1900 screen, the size of the icons in the rdp session is so small its hard to read them.  if i play around with the rdp resolution, i am only making the desktop bigger or smaller, the icons are not scaling to that.  This is different in rdcm 2.2.  in 2.2, the icons are scaled up on a large desktop, making them usable.

SSL cert needed for Windows 2012 RDS environment.

I am trying to create a seamless login experience for my Windows 2012 RDS environment.

Currently, in my collection broker security settings, I am using "Negotiate" under security layer, and I have "Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication" checked.

When I purchase a SSL certificate for the RD Connection Broker Enable Single Sign On and Publishing role services, can I just use a single cert such as mybrokerserver.mydomain.com?

As for the RD Web Access role service and RD Gateway, can I use another single cert such as remote.mydomain.com?

Using a wildcard probably makes more sense here, but we want to use an already existed Go Daddy UCC and add additional websites.

Please advise if you have an idea of what I should get.

Thanks.

No Active Session from User but Stayed as Disconnected. - Pooled Collection

Hi,

1. I have a user tim.holland that remotes into a Pooled VM. I believe he turned off his physical computer with this Remote Session active so now the status is "Disconnected" and VM is OFF. I couldn't start the Pooled VM so I restored to its checkpoint but Disconnected status remains. Tim cannot log back into one of these pooled VMs.

2. I tried to LOG OFF user from the Connections windows in Server Manager-->Remote Desktop Services-->Collection but error.

3. I do not have Cluster. Usually, migrate the VM to another Node will work but unfortunately this is only 1 server.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you

Server 2012 (NOT R2) RDSH server UPD setup Questions

$

I am about to setup windows server 2012 (not r2) RDSH server

currently single server handling 35 users

I am looking at deploying UPD in this environment as the company will take on more users in the coming year so a second RDSH server will be added.

my question is when I come to setup the UPD's what is the max file setting?

default is 20gb does that mean that its set at 20gb and I will have 35 20gb vhdx files on my server or does it mean that it will start at 0 and grow as the profile grows if so I can set this to a lower amount as exchange will be limited to 2gb mailbox size so .ost files will be minimal on each profile

thanks in advance

Unable to retrieve the session collection properties

Hi,

we're facing the following issue while trying to add new Remote Desktop Session Hosts into
a session host collection  : "Unable to retrieve the session collection properties".

The server can be added into the deployment but can't be added into the session host collection and the message above
is returned. This error never happened before and is ennoying as we need to deploy more Servers/Collections.

A collegue noticed that adding a couple of servers at once (from the GUI) succeeded ...
I can't find anything related on EventViewer (Brokers / DataBase server)

Is this a known bug ? I can't find anything related on Microsoft support.microsoft.com
Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks.

Connecting to the rd connection broker server

Hi,

We are suddenly not able to connect to the rds 2012 connection broker interface which we need to manage our RDS servers. Also Powershell access isn't working. However all users can work. It looks like it's hanging on something but eventviewer doesn't show why.

Reboot server didn't help.

RemoteDesktopServices_RDPCoreTS gives:

RDP_UDPLOSSY: An error was encountered when transitioning from UdpLossyStateSynRecv in response to UdpEventErrorHandshakeTO (error code 0x80040004).

Please advise.

Hello,

I have two terminal servers Windows Server 2012 R2 X64 who gives always the message at the bottom right of the screen described as below.

Windows Update
Important updates are available. Go to PC settings to install them.

I can update but if the day after there are new updates available the message is back again. Does someone know how I can let this message disappear for always so the users don't see the message anymore?

RemoteApps on Windows 10 freeze after about 5 minutes

$

Anyone know what I can do to prevent my RemoteApps sessions from freezing on me? I'm using windows 8.1 Ent. to host a Hyper-v instance of Windows 10 Ent.  I have an rdp file with the remote app parameters set to launch a specific application such as Outlook.  However, after about 5 minutes all the remoteapps will freeze. However, the menu bars in them will still work.  Any suggestions of any settings or a hint of what to try next would be great! This worked completely fine in windows 8.1 and all I did was update my VM to v10.

How do I set up RDS on server 2012 R2?

$

In what is fast becoming a trend, it appears the "guide" for setting up RDS is a trip down a rabbit hole that leads everywhere apart from where I want to go.

I have Server 2012 R2 installed, the machine needs to be used to allow multiple users to connect to it concurrently for testing purposes. I have installed RDS (Connection broker, gateway and licensing options) but I can find no instructions for actually installing/enabling the licenses we have for RDS.

How do I do this?

RDS Printer Redirection with NTPrintSubs.INF still functional on 2012 R2?

$

Hi,

first the primary question: Is the remote desktop service printer redirection with the NTPrintSubs.INF still functional in Windows Server 2012 R2?

If Yes: Please explain how to get it working.
If No: How can i rebuild a similar behavior?

I followed multiple guides like: https://technet.microsoft.com/de-de/library/ff519149(v=ws.10).aspx
But on server 2012 R2 it's not working.
The File contains:

[Version]
Signature="$CHICAGO$"

[Printers]
"ZDesigner GC420t" = "Remote Desktop Easy Print"

I also configured the EasyPrint as fallback driver like explained in: https://technet.microsoft.com/de-de/library/ff519145(v=ws.10).aspx
This works as long as the drivers are installed on the server.

But there are some drivers (like ZDesigner GC420t - version: 5.1.7.6290) with wrong default settings. They are not copied from the client (same driver & version). For those drivers i need the EasyPrintDrivers back (they work). Or an option to set the defaultsettings for the dynamicly mapped printers.
The 3rd option would be de uninstallation of the driver, but unfortunately i can't because of some important printers directly installed on the server. So i tried the printer redirection with the NTPrintsubs.INF but without success so far.

As far as i can tell, there are no printer related errors in the event logs.

Thanks for your help!

RDCMan 2.7 keeps crashing when trying to open a second session. I have this installed on a windows 10 64bit machine with 16Gb of ram and dual quad core cpu. Server 2012 RDS - User Profile Disks - Errors during Logoff

$

I have set up a test Server 2012 RDS collection (Single Server for now) and implemented User Profile disks.

I have two problems.

First: My generic test user can connect and does successfully use the user profile disk as expected. However, atlogoff, the system event log contains these errors:

The error (NTFS 137) is: The default transaction resource manager on volume C:\Users\ts3.test encountered a non-retryable error and could not start.  The data contains the error code.

The warning (NTFS 50) that concerns me is:

It appears that the user profile disk is being "disabled" or "disconnected" before the profile data is completely written at logoff. What can I do to troubleshoot this?

Second:

Update: A post from Mike Connor on the following page: -LINK- solved the problem described below.

My administrative user always logs on now with a temporary profile. At the beginning, the UPD was working and mounting. That stopped working. In attempting to troubleshoot, I logged the admin user off and deleted the UPD disk file from the share. I remember it working again after generating a new UPD disk file in the share. Soon, it quit working again. I deleted the UPD disk file again from the share and ever since, it has never regenerated a new UPD andalways logs on with a temporary profile.

Remote Desktop Connection Issue

When using RDC to connect from Computer 1 to Computer 2, I am running into an issue. Both machines are running Windows 10.

Upon connection, Computer 2 (remote), gets a black screen while Computer one (local) takes over as a logged in user.

The issue is the user on Computer 2 (remote) can simply click the black screen, to get to the user account sign in screen and simply sign in again thereby disconnecting the remote session.

How can I prevent the user on Computer 2 (remote) from doing this until I have completed my updates and ended the session?

RDS 2012 remoteapp sessions, HKCU/Control Panel/Colors

$

I am in a test environment with a 2012r2 session host and with a 2012R2 gateway.  We published an application that currently requires us to modify the registry, specifically the 'InactiveTitleText' value in HKCU\control panel\colors.  In a remote desktop session, the registry change works fine, and the app displays as expected. However, once we are in a remoteapp session directly to the app, it will overwrite our registry value('InactiveTitleText') back to the default value of ' 0 0 0'.

Is there a different location for this value in the registry for a remoteapp session? How can I get this value set to a specific value within a remoteapp session besides the default value of '0 0 0'? Or is there no workaround for this? Settings in RDS I'm missing maybe?

Event Name: AppHangTransient? event id 1001 remoteapp windows 2012 R2

$

Im seeing eventid 1001 with Event Name: AppHangTransient for a particular application that we have published with remoteapp. Im seeing this eventid every now and then on the app server.

It is an informational log.  What is this log mean exactly?  Is this caused by the application hanging/freezing? This seems like a dumb question to me, but I have never seen this particular log before. I wanted to confirm.

My main question is, could these possibly cause remoteapp to disconnect and reconnect temporarily?

Thanks.
