Win Server 2012r2 Remote Desktop Stops working after a day!

I have a Poweredge T110 that I have loaded server 2012 r2 on. it is NOT configured as a Domain Controller, DNS, or anything other service except HyperV. I have 1 Virtual server in Hyperv I am testing.   After about 24 hours of being up, the 2012r2 server no longer responds to Remote desktop request......My client (windows 10) says it is not there (I connect by ip) all computers in my home are static ip. I am 100% sure remote desktop is turned on in the settings.  When it starts to act this way I can reboot the server and I can connect to it for about another 24 hours.  The server shows no errors and it is still connected to the internet even while it is denying RDP from my internal network. All machines are on the same subnet and I have the firewall turned off (just for testing). I wanted to keep this a headless server but it appears 2012r2 doesn't want to play.

Anyone have any idea what this could be? I always make sure I LOGOUT instead of disconnect.  While its not such a big deal for me to reboot my server, I can't see a company or a corp IT office constantly having to take a server down for reboot everyday..

We can't sign into your account

Hello

We are trying to get a Pooled Virtual Desktop Environment with userprofiledisks running.

We habe installed RD Virtualization Host, RD Connection Broker und RD WebAccess successfully with Windows Server 2016.

We prepared a Windows 10 1607 Master-Image an did run sysprep.

We created a new Collection and we are able to connect to it.

The Problem is, that there is an Error-Warning appearing "We can't sign into your account, This Problem can often be fixed by signing out of your account and then signing back in. If you don't sign out now, any files you create or chnges you make will be lost."

If we create another Collection without Userprofiledisks, everything ist working fine.

Does anybody had the same Problem with Win 10 1607? Is there a solution?

Thanks for your help!

Greetings from Switzerland

Andreas

RemoteApp - Slow application performance

I have a Windows Server 2012R2 environment, 2 RDWeb/RD Gateway / Connection broker (HA) servers, and currently 2 Session host servers. RDWeb/remoteapp and straight RDP sessions all connect quickly and seamlessly.

I have a legacy financial application that is running for all users.  If users connect directly to the desktop of the server, the application runs very quickly.  If users connect via RDWeb or RemoteApp and Desktop Connections from a Windows PC, the application significantly slows down.  When watching CPU usage, the app never uses more than 4 - 5 % of CPU through RemoteApp, however when connecting directly to the desktop, it will spike briefly (as it should) up to about 20%, and performance is dramatically better.  FairShare CPU is turned off, so I know this is not the issue.  And just to make things more confusing to troubleshoot, when using Microsoft Remote Desktop for MAC, configured for Remote Resources (app publishing), performance is great.  So basically, the issue only happens when using RDWeb or RemoteApp from Windows computers.

Hi everyvody ,

I have two VM ( Esxi 5.5) windows servers 2008 R2 with Remote Deskop Services.
Since two months , my servers crash/freeze randomly and  I can't determine the source of my problèm.
The CPU and RAM is ok , so at first glance it's not a performance issue.

After a crash/freeze , I often have the following warnings :

1 ) "Windows detected your registry file is still in use by other applications or services. The file will be unloaded now. The applications or services that hold your registry file may not function properly"

==>  1 user registry handles leaked from \Registry\User\*******: Process 608 (\Device\HarddiskVolume2\Windows\System32\svchost.exe) has opened key \REGISTRY\USER\***\Printers\DevModePerUser

2) and many error : event 1111 (Printer Redirection)

Someone can help me , please ?

Hi

Ive test at this Project 2016 deployment at many server. User can open the remote app thru Microsoft Remote Desktop app at the AppsStore, But out of all the application the Microsoft Project 2016 wont be able to save.  They can run the application but they wont able to save them. It will throw some error saving that im trying to open up a files.

Ive tested with many devices of Mac Yosemite and also tested with Android and found out Project 2016 cannot save files. Other application however is working fine such as (office 2016).

Anyone test Project 2016 as a remoteapp on MacOS or Android.

* Project 2016 is on the latest update from Microsoft.

* KMS licensed Project 2016.

scaling remote desktop display to larger size ("pixel doubling") ?

I'm displaying the console of various remote hosts using Remote Desktop on my 2560x1600 display, and they come out very small. I would like to enlarge the RDP windows and have the remote displays' pixels increased in size accordingly. Is this possible?

I initially thought RDP smart sizing would take care of this but it seems this feature only supports making pixels smaller (scaling down, not up).

Note that I want any configuration changes to be done to my local machine only. Changing text size, DPI, or any other desktop related setting on remote hosts is undesired as they are correctly setup when used in other contexts.

Thanks
Mike

Server 2012 RDS WinLogon process crashing Event ID 4005 Black Screen

We have this issue on many 2012 RDS session hosts. The issue has been seen at different clients with different set ups, some have a simple 1 session host RDS server, some have 4 or 5 session hosts in a load balanced farm with RD gateway, connection brokers, RDWeb, ect. The problem in simplest explanation:

A user will call the help desk saying they cannot access the server. They will get an error when RDP is trying to connect.

We check the session hosts, and will find many errors:

"Event ID 4005 - The Windows logon process has unexpectedly terminated"

At that point in time, users who are currently logged in may be able to still work, or their session may lock up (it is not consistent).

Regardless of the current users logged; after the logon process crashes, it continues to crash upon every user attempt to log on. It will happen indefinitely until the server is rebooted. We can not log in, not even via console until the server is rebooted.

Then, everything works fine for some amount of time (not consistent) it may be a couple of days, or it may be weeks, or a month even.

We have had the case open with Microsoft for about two months and they cannot determine what is wrong.

I believe I may have found a possible cause; Webroot Secure Anywhere antivirus. Since we have tried everything from moving from roaming profiles to local profiles, removing all printers, blocking inheritance of GP, fresh server builds with minimal software, ect - it has to be something that is consistent across the board on all servers.

The only thing I can find consistent across the board is the Antivirus; Webroot.

I am curious if anyone else is having this issue? I would like to pin point this to something but it is so intermittent and we cannot force replicate the problem.

Remote Login fails on credentials

Hi

I get a message to say that the username and password is incorrect when i try to log in to my work PC.

the setup is: Windows 10 version 1607, this PC is not on a domain but instead a simple Workgroup it has a static internal IP and the router has Dynamic DNS setup on it with port forwarding to the PC. when i achieve a connection to the PC it states the domain name which is incorrect and if i enter the PCName/Username and correct password i still get the "Incorrect username or password try again". i have tried the credentials on the local PC and they are correct and work but not when i use RDP.

when i try to connect the domain name that appears on the screen is the old workgroup name if this is a clue!!!

any help would be appreciated

RDP8+, "Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because an error occurred"

Ok, I have racked my brain trying to figure this out and I'm out of ideas.

Issue - Random Windows 7 PC that has updated to RDP 8.0 gets this error when they try to connect to a server we have set up for them through a gateway.  Only happens when the computer is updated to RDP8.  Downgrading to RDP7.1 fixes the issue and they can connect just fine.

The issue only affect a very small number of computers.  Most Windows 7 computers with RDP 8.0 can connect just fine.  But right now, I am working with a client that has their own computers and domain (I have no control over) that are affected by this issue.  This is not the only client I have run into with this issue as well.

This problem is essentially what is described here - http://www.examiner.com/article/fixing-an-error-occurred-on-the-remote-computer-with-remote-desktop-connection  Except I would really like to know if there is a fix other than uninstalling RDP 8.

WS2012 R2 drives redirection

Hello,

I have deployed a remoteApp hosted on a remote server (Windows Server 2012 R2).

This application possesses common features such as: Uploading files, Downloading files & Printing files.

I have setup all the proper configuration in order to redirect the files & the printers but, for some reason:

* My printers are properly redirected (I have access to my local printers).

* My drives are not (I only have access to remote drives, i.e.: the server's drives).

It is driving me crazy, I have followed all the threads I could find (official or non-official ones).
Would you have any ideas?

Thanks

changing domain membership of RDS deployment servers?

$

Hi. Is it somehow possible to "move" a RDS deployment (HA RDCB, RDSH, RDWA) to a different domain?

I assume that just switching domain membship of all the servers wouldn't work, since information stored on RDCB (RDMS) is tied to the domain where it was created.

So, would something like the following (top-level steps) work?:
1) delete the whole deployment

2) change domain membership of all servers that were part of the former deployment

3) create new RDS deployment in the new domain

4) migrate user accounts to the new domain (to use re-use UPD profiles that we would copy to a new file server) using ADMT (?)

Any ideas/suggestions?

Sanity check: Valid RDS Farm Design?

$

I'm looking for a sanity check on a 2012 RDS farm design I'm reviewing:

There are two datacenters with a RDS farm in each on.

Datacenter 1 =
1xConnection Broker
1xSession Host
1xWeb Access
1xGateway
1xLicense Server

Datacenter 2 =
1xConnection Broker
1xSession Host
1xWeb Access
1xGateway
Uses the License server in Datacenter 1.

Each farm has the same RemoteApps published.

There is no clustering, loadbalancing or HA. It is a primary secondary design where if Datacenter1 is lost then the clients would connect via Datacenter2.

However... if Datacenter1 is lost then there is no licensing server available to the secondary farm is useless...? Am I right or have I missed something?

Upgrade Licensing server

Hello,

We need to upgrade our Remote Desktop licenses from Windows 2008 R2 to Windows 2012 R2 as uers are not able to get RDP on Windows 2012 R2 servers we have installed soem time back. I understand we would need to do two things-

1. Upgrade the licensing server from Windows 2008 R2  to  Windows 2012 R2

2. Upgrade the terminal server licenses.

What would be the steps to perform this upgrade ?
