Server 2016 RDS connections maxing out and crashing dwm.exe?

We attempted a stress load on our server and found users unable to join. The RDS would blackscreen and drop. It happened after 8 users had joined. The performance also was dropping as each connection stacked and after we saw the Event Viewer had 450+ Critical Error 1000 with dwm.exe dwmcore.dll crashing.

this computer cannot connect to the remote computer

Hi All,

We have recently run into an issue where when we try to Remote into a server it gives the error "this computer cannot connect to the remote computer". A few details and things I have tried.

The local firewall is off.

There is no network firewall in between the end machines and the server

This is only affecting one 2008 R2 server

No other machines can remote into it i have tried many different accounts which are domain admins and different machines.

The Terminal Services logs have no error messages besides the occasional "Failed to start". However, this error message has been appearing even when the service worked.

We have security for RDP set to high.

The service is connected to an operational NIC.

Any advice would be helpful. If you need anymore info please let me know.

SSMS over RDP twice as slow as console session

Hi,

I have two servers, a terminal server and a database server. Whenever I log into the terminal server or database server from the Hyper-V console and run a test query from SSMS it takes about 19 seconds. However, whenever I RDP into the terminal server, that same query will take about 45 seconds.

Anyone have any ideas? VM Queueing is off on all nics, both VM's are sharing the same NIC on an external virtual switch that's on the default vlan.

Thanks,
Dillon

Unable to open new apps through RDweb access on existing RDS

Hello everyone,

we currently have an existing (working) Windows 2008 R2 RDS environment:

3 Session Hosts

1 Broker

1 RDWeb

Apps are published using rdweb for customers to access them through the internet... Everything works OK

We are adding a new Session Host to the environment, all settings were done and have been reviewed several times, everything (as far as I can tell) is identical between this new server and the others; apps were added, server groups populated, added to broker, TS CAP and RAP...

can access the web portal and I can see my list of new apps but once I try to open any I receive an error:

RemoteApp Disconnected
Remote Desktop can´t find the computer "servername.xxdomain.com". This might mean that "servername.xxdomain.com" does not belong to the specified network. Verify the computer name and domain that you are trying to connect to.

Any thoughts on this??

accounts lock and require password resets

We are seeing more frequently people getting locked out of their accounts and not being able to log in even after waiting.

Account lockout is 5 tries, wait 5 minutes, can log in again.

For some users even this does not work, I have to unlock the account on a domain controller, and sometimes even this does not work and I must reset the password.

Why does this happen?? How do I fix or prevent this??

Only thing I learned of so far is to lower the replication time from 180 minutes to 60 minutes in AD Sites and Services (IP Inter-Site Transport).

Thank you, Tom

Remote Desktop Connection Manager 2.7

I used RD Tabs by Avian Waves for remote desktop connection manager, and tried setting up RDC Mgr.  My question is: If I check the Tools-Option - Full Screen - Use Multiple Montors When Necessary, should I be able to extend my monitor to use both ? Right it just stays on the main monitor.  I know that if I use MSTSC I can do it.  My question is more for RDC Manager.

RDS 2012 R2: A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the (name-of-service) service

Hi guys,

On a random base (daily, weekly) we're experiencing major log-in problems on our Windows Server 2012 R2 Remote Desktop Services farm. The VM's are hosted on Hyper-V 2008 hosts and we're not using Citrix techniques etc.

Users are reporting that they cannot log-in, the log-in sessions hangs with a blank screen when loading their user profile (e.g. Please Wait For The User Profile Service).

In the System event log of the server on which the user is logging on the following errors are shown:

Source:        Service Control Manager
Date:          23-12-2014 7:28:01
Event ID:      7011
Task Category: None
Level:         Error
Keywords:      Classic
User:          N/A
Description:

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the UmRdpService service.

…and after 30 (or sometimes 60) seconds, the same error only another service (in random order):

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the UmRdpService service.

…and after exactly 30 seconds, the same error only another service:

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the UxmSms service.

etcetera, with the following errors:

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the Netman service.

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the AudioEndPointBuilder service.

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the WPDBusEnum service.

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the NlaSvc service.

The Portable Device Enumerator Service service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the TrkWks service.

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the UmRdpService service.

These errors are logged continuously.

An administrator cannot solve this since he isn't able to login in as well (console or remotely), only a hard reset of the VM is possible to use the affected server again.

I took different steps to solve this problem without any success, like:

- Installing the latest Windows updates
- Removed unnecessary printer drivers, print monitors and print processors (no local printers/drivers are installed, only Remote Desktop Easy Printer driver is used)
- Searched different forum posts, but found only hotfixes for Windows Server 2008 R2.

Can someone please help me with this annoying problem?

Many thanks!!

EDIT:
Of course is increasing the time-out not really an option here... http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/13765.event-id-7011-service-timeout.aspx

RDGateway and RDweb access constraint

Installing RDWebaccess role will create a 'RDWeb' application in the IIS Manager under Default Website.

Installing RDGateway role will create 'Rpc' and 'RpcWithCert' application in IIS under the same default website.

RDWeb application in IIS after installing RDWebAccess

RPC apps after installing RDGateway

The installed gateway creating a listener which is active at the port 443 by default. To make use of the RD web application, I need to start the service of 'Default Web site'.

Now the problem is, if gateway service is running, I am not able start the RDWeb Access service. I am getting the following error,

Another webservice(RD Gateway) already using the port, hence I cannot able to start the RDWebAccess service too

I need to move the RDWeb application from the default website to newly created website (by creating a website in IIS manager)  so that, I can make use of RDGateway and RDWebAccess simultaneously. Is there any process to do this? Please share.

Thanks,

Sukumar

Problem reconfiguring Remote Desktop Services after changing domains

$

Hello everyone,

I have a remote desktop services server under Windows Server 2012 that only publishes one application. All of the roles are on this server. The AD domain that this server is currently a member of is in the process of being decommissioned. I need to remove this server from its current domain and add it to the main domain and get RDS to function again. All of the AD users/groups have already been recreated on the main domain.

Since the production RDS server is a VM, I cloned it and performed all of the necessary changes and added it to the main domain so that I could test reconfiguring the RDS setup. The problem that I can't seem to get by is how to add the new server name/domain to the server pool. Under Server Manager > Remote Desktop servers > Overview I see the following message: "The following servers in this deployment are not part of the server pool: 1.old-server-name.olddomain.local The servers must be added to the server pool"

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Per Device Licencing

We have a server (lets call it server 1) in our datacentre which is licenced for RDS on a per user basis. Our users connect to this via thier domain1 account.

We have another server (server 2),  in a different datacentre, in a different domain, it is not currently licenced and is within grace period for RDS.

Users jump on to Server 1 and then from there connect to Server 2 (using a different domain account than they used on server1)

I would like to licence this server.

Do i need individual user RDS cals, or would i get away with a single device CAL as all users would be connecting from a single server?

Thanks

Server 2016 - Remote Desktop and Drive Passthrough + BSOD + Bugcheck

$

Afternoon all,

I have a few RDS Session Host servers on Windows Server 2016 with drive pass through enabled so users can use USB sticks from their local PC's to the RD session.

Since standing up these new Server 2016 RDS Session Hosts I have noticed that every few days they will Blue Screen with a bug check error in the Event Viewer:-

event log: The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000027 (0x00000000fcb0027c, 0xffffdd0294bfb618, 0xffffdd0294bfb250, 0x0000000000000000). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 0372a8fb-86dd-4937-9a8c-aa155c72329c.

I have managed to isolate the issue to drive pass through when calling on \\TSCLIENT because when I turn off this option for users the server is stable for over a week now.

I have found 1 other person on the internet with this issue but his was with a normal Server 2016 install and was simply remote desktop'ing into the server so i believe the issue to be isolated to remote desktop in Server 2016 in general however when he reported it to the Visual Studio team as a bug the shrugged it off as a Windows issue.

https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/problem/3146/debugging-managed-code-system-services-cause-rando.html#reply-form

I have documented my findings here:- http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-server-2016/177575-server-2016-bsod-bugcheck.html

Has anyone else experienced this? I cannot find any flag from Microsoft to say this is an issue or that they are aware of this.

Issue with User Profile Disk in RDS 2012 and Excel files

Hi All,

Very strange issue.

I have brand new RDS server 2012 R2 without User Profile Disks (UPD) enabled - all excel files are working fine.

Once i enable the UPD some excel files are not opening and the error is "The file is corrupt and cannot be opened".

If I remove the UPD, the same excel files are opened without a problem. This is with Excel 2013. Tried to reinstall the Office, check the permissions of the UPD location - everything seems fine.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks

Hi,

Recently we have a problem with a user that logs in. He session start and he goes on with his work.

After a break he walks away and the local computer locks the screen/ his terminal session also locks.

After he comes back he unlocks his local computer and logs in, after that he want to log in his terminal session but he gets a deny with ''password wrong''. But it is his correct password... Just like that he cant login, we have to kill his session and then everything logs in perfectly.

What could be wrong?

Cannot activate RDS Server 2012 in Workgroup enviroment?

We have installed an RDS-Server in a Workgroup because we do not want it connect it to the domain for various reasons. The server worked just fine, but now the license has to be activated and this does not seem to be possible. How can we activate it and continue using it without connecting it to a domain? The RDS-Server runs as a Hyper-V server. We would really like to use it asap without having to change the rest of the network of changing it to the domain.

2008 r2 Terminal Session user issues

I have begun getting ts hangs on multiple servers that had run for a quite awhile without issue. The problem is the system just becomes unresponsive to certain tasks.

For instance if I am logged in as admin and users state system is frozen, I can still function within my session as can some others. However, if I open taskmgr and click on users tabs it locks up. None of the usual tools quser, qwinsta will return any data. tasklist and taskkill also hang.  I even built a brand new ts2008rs ts on a 2016 physical box and the issue has crept in. I do have 3 in another location and they are not experiencing the issue. I have also run av and other scans to no avail.

Any thoughts?

OpenGL 4.4 support for vGPU in Windows Server 2016

$

Hello,

I just installed a Windows 10 Professional client in Hyper-V on a Windows Server 2016 host.

My graphics card is an NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1070 with the latest drivers installed.

I followed following instructions to enable OpenGL support:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/31771.experience-guide-for-enabling-opengl-support-for-vgpu-in-server-2016.aspx

Unfortunately I only get OpenGL 1.1 instead of 4.4.

Is there anything else to set up in order to get OpenGL 4.4 running?

Thanks a lot for all your help!

Best regards,
Marco
