I am trying to add users to this new azure vm using RDS.

To test it out I purchased 2 RDS CALs from Microsoft and installed.

As it shows it is available but not getting issued to users as a result users cannot access the VM using RDS.

What steps I am missing?

The RDS report is as follow:

Server 2012 R2 Update 1 - Remove Store Icon from all new and old profiles?

After updating our 2012 r2 terminal servers to update 1 we noticed a store icon on the taskbar on all profiles on all the TS servers in the cluster.

How do we remove it from the taskbar? I don't want to block the store itself just remove the icon from the taskbar.

I noticed this as well on my windows 8.1 update 1 images, it be nice to remove it form there too.

thanks

Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS Error 20499 Remote Desktop Services has taken too long to load the user configuration from server

Hello

We recently did a migration of our RDS Server to a brand new Windows 2012 R2 server.

All was working fine but we started to have this messages in the RemoteConnectionManager event log:

Everytime this error message is logged the user gets disconnected from their RDS session.

So far we tried the following:

- Validate AD health (sites, subnet, replication, sysvol)

- We changed the DisableTaskOffload option as suggested in other posts

- We verified the group policy settings applied

Unfortunately we still haven't found what the root cause of this issue is.

Any suggestion of similar previous experience is welcome.

Thanks in advance!

RD Connection Broker Farm help!

$

Hi All,

Let me first explain what I have and what I'm trying to achieve.

I have 1x Microsoft RD Connection Broker Server

I also have 2x Microsoft Remote Desktop Session Host servers (one primary and one secondary)

I then have a Kemp hardware loadbalancer which contains the IPs of the Session Host servers

I have configured an RD Connection broker farm that includes the two aforementioned Session Host servers.

The plan is for clients to connect into the Session Host servers via the Kemp loadbalancer's virtual IP.  As the Session Host servers are part of the RD Connection Broker Farm on the RD Connection broker sever I want there to be continuity for user sessions in the event of a primary Session Host server failure.  The problem is that this is not happening!

To test I am logging into a user session on Session Host Server1 (I get server1 as I have weighted the real server IP on the Kemp device so it will always connect here unless it is down).  I then simulate a Server1 failure (pulling power).  The session crashes and I start a new session.  The Kemp device does its job and directs me to Server2.  All good so far.  However once I put in the users login details I get the 'Server cannot be found' error.  So the connection broker is kicking in as its trying to connect me to the existing session but on the wrong server! It is trying to reconnect me to the failed server.  Does anyone have any ideas why this would be happening?

Any help appreciated!

Server 2016 RDS connections maxing out and crashing dwm.exe?

We attempted a stress load on our server and found users unable to join. The RDS would blackscreen and drop. It happened after 8 users had joined. The performance also was dropping as each connection stacked and after we saw the Event Viewer had 450+ Critical Error 1000 with dwm.exe dwmcore.dll crashing.

Remote Desktop Services not manageable through server manager after computer name change

$

I'd successfully installed RDS, installed licenses, and everything was manageable through Server Manager. I think was forced to change the computer name due to management's request. Now, when choosing Remote Desktop Services via Server Manager, I get "The following servers in this deployment are not part of the server pool: 1. OLDSERVERNAME.DOMAIN The servers must be added to the server pool."

I'm running Server 2012r2.

I've Googled my guts out, but have not found a solution. All else works as expected...the node is a part of a cluster and the Failover Cluster Manager has no issues with it. The machine connects to the domain just fine.

Manually launching the "RD License Diagnoser" via Control Panel > Admin Tools > Remote Desktop Services also gives me a message that this server is "within it's grace period, but the RD Session Host Server has not been configured with any license server." - However, this was done prior to the name change it the warning was not present.

Manually launching the "Remote Desktop Licensing Manager' via Control Panel > Admin Tools > Remote Desktop Services shows no errors. It gives me the new server name and shows it as activated. It also shows my licenses which were previously registered.

Unable to Change Screen Resolution in Remote Session - Windows Server 2012 R2

Does anybody know of a way to allow Remote Desktop users to adjust their own screen resolution in a remote session under Windows Server 2012 R2? We are struggling with this and can't seem to find a solution.

When users login to their RDP session and try to adjust their screen resolution this message is displayed in Control Panel:

"The display settings can't be changed from a remote session."

We don't want to use the "make text and other items larger or smaller" scaling feature, as this produces undesirable results with some of our applications.  We also don't want to have to support multiple types of RDP clients or RDP shortcut files.

We have looked at other posts but can't find an answer that applies to Windows Server 2012 R2.  The closest thing we could find is KB2726399, but it only applies to Server 2008.

Does anybody have a solution for Server 2012?

Thanks

Remote Desktop Connections in Server 2016 Essentials

I am getting ready to purchase windows server 2016 essentials for a small business. Because of our accounting system, we need to have 6 concurrent remote desktop connections to one server. We are currently running 2012r2 essential evaluation, which limits us to 2 connections. Before plunking down cash for 2016 essentials (or breaking my currently running setup to try 2016), I need to know how many remote desktop connections windows server 2016 essentials allows. Can anyone point me to documentation telling me what i need to know? Thanks in advance!

Printing Problems

$

Our server has developed a strange printing problem, i have researched and tried various suggestions however none work

The Server is Windows 2008 SP 2 - 64bit running terminal services

Printing from IE V9 (64bit) works fine

Printing from all Microsoft applications work fine

Trying to Print from IE V9 32bit - Printer dialogue window opens and versions printers are listed, including "Add Printer" option, also a Print error dialogue opens "Before you can print, you need to select a printer If you need to install a printer, either double-click the Add Printer icon or click the find Printer...button located on the general tab of this dialog"

Print and Apply are both greyed out, Add Printer, and find printer has no effect

Trying to Print from Adobe Reader appears to work but no print is produced, and no print shows in the print queue - Print seems to go into a black hole

Trying to Print from Firefox V50 - Unable to change printer properties, and printing produces the same error from the 2 dialogs "Printer Error and  Print Preview Error"

- Error shows - "An error occurred while printing"

The problem seems to exist for some users only

I have created a new user / profile and the problem still exists

The problem is also visible from the Administrators account

Any suggestions would be welcome

RDS - Black Screen after login

$

Hello,

I have researched this issue for hours now and didn't find a resolution.

So I have a physical Dell server which runs Windows Server 2012 R2. Its a single server setup which means all RDS related roles are running on one physical server. Users access published apps on that server and also establish RDP sessions from there. About every 3 weeks all users see the black screen issue when they are trying to open apps from the server and I also see the black screen after login when I directly RDP into the server.

The server is fully patched and has all the recommended hotfixes installed related to this issue. Idle active user sessions are being disconnected after 2h and disconnected sessions are being disconnected after 15min. So the max users I have on this server at a time are between 10 and 15. The server has plenty of resources CPU, Memory and disk space.

When the issue occurs even ctrl+alt+end does not even work. I will have to reboot the server via shutdown -i from another machine.

I believe the server actually still runs and all services are up because SCOM does not trigger an alert.

I am really clueless why this issue keeps coming back after running for a couple of weeks. We have several other Windows Server 2012 R2 machines and I don't see that issue on them. I have to admit they do not run RDS.

I am tempted to setup a weekly reboot of the server but honestly that would be my last gateway of resort.

Can someone please help me and give me some additional ideas what the issue could be.

Thank you

Remote Desktop Gateway Port

Server 2012 with RDS. We have an apache server that forwards (reverse proxy) 443 connections to the appropriate server. However, it appears apache does not support rpc over https. So, when we launch a remoteapp resource using the webfeed.aspx, we get remote desktop gateway is unavailable. If we change the port from 443 to x443 in remote desktop gateway manager and configure our firewall to allow port x443 to the RDS server, we get the same error. What is the correct way to setup RD Gateway in this environment?

Does the remoteapp on the client know to use the new port x443? I have removed the resources and reconfigured for the resources

I have confirmed the remoteapp piece is using 443 according to the apache ssl logs. How to use different port on remoteapp piece on client?

RemoteFX USB Serial Device redirection (Honeywell 1900 scanner)

Hi All

I've been trying to get a USB to Serial device working over RDP on a HyperV VM without using 3rd party tools (USB over Network).
RemoteFX seems the way forward but do I really need a dedicated GPU for RemoteFX if I only need the USB redirection?
I am ready to buy the ATI/NVIDIA  cards if required but I would prefer to save the money.

There must be a way of redirecting USB to Serial devices without new hardware.?!?!?

Kind regards

Chris

I remember reading about being able to do a health check on non domain joined client computers before allowing them to connect to RDS in 2008. Has anyone found away to do this in 2016/2012R2? 2016 mainly.

Hi,

after the installation of the update KB3205402 when I log-in via RDP with my user on our server, explorer.exe does not start.
My Account have administrator pemission level.
The only element inside of my desktop is a window opened on "Computer".
Application bar is not shown, if i try to make right click on descktop the menu doesn't appear.
If I try with another user or brand new user, nothing change.
I've allready tried with the following command and hotfix:

  1. with the Powershell i've tryed to use Dism command but in win 2k8R2 DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and DISM /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup are not implemented command.
  2. I've checked HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion/Winlogon "shell" is correctly set on explorer.exe; I've also compared other parameters with an other server and are the same, obviously the other server is a 2k8R2 too.
  3. I've installed Manually Hotfix for Windows (KB947821) and .Net Framework 4.5.2 but nothing change

I'm trying to execute manually update from Windows Update and I get allways an error.

Any suggestion to fix this annoyng problem?

Hello for all!

In my environment there are 1000 RDS users and 5 RDS terminal server, there is no load balance at this moment and users connect in all servers replicating x5 each user profile generating more it support and bad disk usage with so many profiles

What is the best strategy to implement RDS in this environment to save storage management and reduce IT support ?
