Local Drive not available through RDP

$

hello

setup as follows:

1 x windows 2012 r2 server acting as RDS

1 x windows 2012 r2 server acting as RDG

same subnet

gpo acting on RDS but only computer config - admin templates - windows components - terminal services - terminal server - device and resource redirection -- do not allow com port redirection, do not allow smart card device redirection and do not allow supported plug and play device redirection

RDG has CAP that allows device redirection for all client devices

however, when i connect to the RDS from my windows 10 machine (via the RDG), no local drives have been redirected.

also, if i log onto the main File server then from that, rdp to the RDS directly, still no redirected drives.

yes, i've checked that drives are checked on the remote desktop client.

any ideas?

Corrupt basic theme, inverted colors

Weird issue I've seen around the web and here on technet occasionally with no true fix so I'm asking for a bit of help. It seems we have inverted colors on most of our remote app servers. Attempts to take ownership of the vscache folder for deletion throws a "failed to enumerate" error. I've had success taking ownership on a non remote app server but still get access denied when trying to delete the vscache folder. I've tried the registry gpo fix detailed here: http://ravingroo.com/1466/fix-windows-server-2012-corrupt-color-scheme-theme-yellow-text-black-background-issue/. I'm bouncing a few servers as we speak, but as of last night in my home environment I was unable to fix the issue with this workaround on a server I cloned from my corporate production farm. I've run the latest updates on one server and bounced it with no luck. I may resort to a snapshot but we can't keep taking snapshots of remote app servers each time this happens. Installing the desktop experience has not worked either. I'm really hoping Microsoft has a patch that can be applied or a permanent work around.

How to enable verbose logging for event viewer - TerminalServices-SessionBroker

Hi guys,

Struggling to find information on how to enable verbose logging so we can see a Connection Broker redirections happening  in a 2012 R2 RDS farm - in the past someone has enabled it on two of the four CB servers (HA), but we'd like to know how to enable it on the other 2 as we need to plan to migrate to new servers soon and would like to see the connections being redirected to confirm successful migration.

Specifically looking to generate

Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-SessionBroker-Client

ID: 1307

Remote Desktop Connection Broker Client successfully redirected the user %1\%2 to the endpoint %3.
Ip Address of the end point = %4

Any help would be appreciated.

Issue with Remote desktop Services within Direct Access

I have set up Remote Desktop Services on a Windows 2012 R2 Server.  Internally everything is working as expected.  The next stage is to get it to work via DirectAccess.

I can log into DirectAccess as me (member of the Domain Admin group) and get to the RDWeb page,  but when I click on the RemoteApp Program,  I get the "Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these Reasons:  etc."

But if still logged into DirectAccess as me, I log into the RemoteApp program as the Domain Administrator it all works as it should.

Anybody have any ideas?

Server 2008 R2 Default printer problem

I have 4 Remote Desktop servers. All are running Server 2008 R2 Datacenter. All connections are run by a broker for load balancing. All of the users use Folder redirection for the user profiles. 95% of my users connect through a thin client device and only a handful of users connect using a PC. When the users log in their default printer changes to the local Docuware Printer PS. It doesn't matter what printer you choose when you log out, the Docuware printer is always default when you log back in. We have been using Docuware for several years and only in the last two months has this been happening. At first it was just one or two users. And now it has spread. My first thought was that there was a GPO that was causing the problem. I have looked and I do not have a GPO that is pointing to a printer. Everything for printers is not configured. I have scoured the internet for answers and only find old info about hot fixes and other garbage. All of my servers are patched to the current release. I am at a loss. Any ideas?

Windows 2012R2, language bar disappears on the client after shadow connection

Hello,

The thing bothering me is when administrator disconnects from his shadow session, language bar in user's session disappears (hot keys stop working too).

Hardware/Software:
1. Clients: Win8.1 (pc), WinCE (thinclient)
2. Servers: Win2012R2 (all hotfixes have been installed)
3. Roles: RDS
4. Administrators' pc: Win8.1 (pc)

Steps to reproduce:
1. Users open their sessions. Language switching works fine, language bar is on its place.
2. Administrator connects to active session with command: mstsc /v:%HOSTNAME% /shadow:%SESSIONID% /control /noconsentprompt
3. User's issue resolved. Administrator closes his shadow window and language bar disappears in the user's session (hot keys also stop working). User has to logoff and then logon again.

Same also works if you try to connect to user directly from a server.

Thanks for your help.

Does anyone have an idea? any help will be much appreciated.

User Profile Disks - Renaming for convenience in Computer Management.

Hello Technet.

I'm currently using UPD technology on 2012 R2 Servers for a few collections with my companies internal servers along with customer facing Remote Desktop servers.

We've been having difficulties with UPD getting stuck at user logoffs and had a case with Microsoft on resolving the issue ending with the information that the App-V and MDOP departments need to fix the issues together. Still an ongoing issue at our company with hundreds of disks being locked every day.

The issue I'm currently trying to fix is renaming the User Profile Disks labels automatically (at logon) to the disks owner in order to be able to find the disk quickly inside Computer Management.

I can identify the disk's owner two ways.

1. Diskpart - List Volume  - Volume displays the mounted path in the C:\Users Folder f.x. C:\Users\admin.user.1

2. Disk Management - Right Click - Properties and enter Security in order to find the AD user that has access to the disk.

The need behind this is to be able to manually detach the disk when a disk is locked on to a server that the user is not connected on.

Ideas on how to solve this with a logon script ?

We have downloaded the update "Windows8.1-KB2992611-x64.msu" for Windows Server 2012 R2 but on running the file it gives error "The update is not applicable to your computer".

Also, it has been observed that this update is not listed in automatic windows update list.

Bug: RemoteApp in Server 2016 sets C:\windows\system32 as "current directory" no matter where the app is stored

Hi

All applications I publish for RemoteApp on Windows Server 2016 gets "Current directory" set to "C:\Windows\system32\", no matter where I have the application (only tried with applications stored on C:\ fyi)

This is the environment-settings all applications I've published on a Server 2016 gets (besides the command line ofc).

My current solution is to use a cmd-script to enter the correct directory and then start it and just publish the .cmd-script.

Remove CAL pack from TS Licensing server

$

Hi,

I've got a customer with three licensing servers... WS2003, WS2008 and WS2012.

Recently they bought 20 CAL per device 2016 licenses. During activation proccess there was a mistake and those CAL where installed on WS2003 Licensing Server, instead of WS2008 server...

I've been trying to talk with Clearing House and tech support to remove those licenses from WS2003 licensing server... And no one knew how to do it...

The only solution they gave to me was migrating licenses from WS2003 to WS2008, but I guess that proccess migrates all the licenses, and you need to deactivate WS2003 server... That's not an option to this client....

Can anyone provide me some help?

Thank you very much, and sorry for my english...

Remote Session to allow a user to execute 2 specific processes

$

Greetings,

this is a general question. I have a windows server 2012, running weblogic server on it. It is logged in as administrator and the weblogic application is running on the back. I want to give access to a user, to logged in with remote connection and the session will show 2 applications. The purpose of this is, i want a non administrator user, to be able to execute stop-server.ps1 which is terminating my weblogic server, and start-server.ps1 which is starting my weblogic server. Some times the weblogic server needs to be stopped (not forcefully, that's why i have a script for that), and start again since i will not always be able to do it my self. The user should not be able to interact with the server, but only execute this 2 scripts. How can this be achieved?

Thanks in Advanced for your help.

Remote Desktop default printers not setting

$

Our scenario is mac based and we use remote desktop to use windows applications we can't run on them.

There's one problem with printers though, no one is able to set their own user specific default printer.
You set the default and everything is working fine, till you log off then back on.. what will happen is the printer default is the first printer but then their printer has duplicates installations of it, you can tell this when you right click the printer and it asks which printer you want to change i.e.
>samsung 1234
>samsung 1234
>samsung 1234

I then have to delete their local profile and get them to log back in again for it to go back to normal, their printer is then default without multiple installations of the same printer, till they log out and back in.
I have even recreated their profile and given them a new one but it's still the same issue.

Any ideas? GPO is not set for any defaults etc

Might be worth mentioning that we have two servers for active directory logins of rds1 and rds2, it will split the users onto both servers to share the load. If one person is logged into rds1 then the server will redirect them to rds2. We have to delete both profiles on both servers, is there a link issue here because of the two profiles?

W2016 - RemoteFX setup for fluid video rendering and low cpu

Hi,

I noticed that w2016 RDSSH (virtual machine non-hyper-v) will uses twice as much cpu than w2008 r2 when rendering video. That's a big disappointement.

There is a RemoteFX GPO for W2008 R2 to set frame rate and video quality. I had set for a fluid video rendering (i.e. High frame rate and medium video quality). Watching videos is not at all the main purpose of my servers and the service is fair enough w/ w2008 r2.

Is there a similare setup for W2016 ? Or any other tweak to get fluid video and low cpu ? (Network bandwidth is not a problem. All clients are 100Mb/full)

Problems with connecting to RDP over VPN

$

Hello

I'm using Windows server 2012 R2 standard, the server is located on an ESXI 6.0.

I did a migration of SBS2008 to Windows Server 2012 with this manual https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/canitpro/2014/05/27/step-by-step-active-directory-migration-from-windows-server-2008-r2-to-windows-server-2012-r2/

I'm able to setup a PPTP VPN connection to the new server. I'm able to ping to the new server and to the old server aswell, when I'm connected via VPN. But when I want to go to the shares it doesn't work. (Can't find server on IP address) Also the remote desktop doesn't work via VPN.

I'm able to connect to the old server via RDP and file shares are reachable. I already disabled firewall and endpoint security, still that doesn't seem to resolve the problem.

[Edit]

I narrowed my problem down to the following:

I tracert to the server over the VPN and i get 2 replies:

Tracing route to 172.16.0.251 over a maximum of 30 hops

  1    26 ms    30 ms    35 ms  RDPSERVER [172.16.0.117]
  2    27 ms    32 ms    33 ms  172.16.0.251

When I try to RDP to .251 it doesn't work over VPN, but when I try to RDP to the .117 it does work. And that is the new RDP server.
In other words it is possible to make a RDP connection to the internal interface (the one I see in Routing and remote access), but it doesn't work to the Ethernet0 (with IP address .251)

RDP to the old server works over VPN. But I think the problem is something with the Routing and Remote Access, but I got no idea how to solve it.

If there are other things you need, just ask

Thanks for the feedback

Kind regards
