Remove CAL pack from TS Licensing server

$

Hi,

I've got a customer with three licensing servers... WS2003, WS2008 and WS2012.

Recently they bought 20 CAL per device 2016 licenses. During activation proccess there was a mistake and those CAL where installed on WS2003 Licensing Server, instead of WS2008 server...

I've been trying to talk with Clearing House and tech support to remove those licenses from WS2003 licensing server... And no one knew how to do it...

The only solution they gave to me was migrating licenses from WS2003 to WS2008, but I guess that proccess migrates all the licenses, and you need to deactivate WS2003 server... That's not an option to this client....

Can anyone provide me some help?

Thank you very much, and sorry for my english...

RD Gateway server could not create tunnel.

The user "domain\user", on client computer "193.xxx.xxx.xxx", was not authorized to connect to the RD Gateway server because a tunnel could not be created. The authentication method attempted: "NTLM" and connection protocol"HTTP". The following error occurred: "2147965433".

Any ideas?

  • Clean install,
  • godaddy cert.
  • Windows 2012 R2 Standard
  • 1 Broker, 1 Gateway, 1 Host on the same server.
  • Client uses windows 10

When connecting via RDWEB, the login prompt is displayed. When logging in after clicking on the rdp file the mstsc connection window freezes for a brief second, then the pop up below appears: (google translated)

Your computer can not connect to the remote computer because the server Remote Desktop Gateway expected a different authentication method than the one used.

1 CAP, 1 RAP. Policy set to allow Domain Users, user is member of Domain User and Admins.

Also saw the following Warning:

RDPClient_SSL: An error was encountered when transitioning from TsSslStateDisconnected to TsSslStateDisconnected in response to 25 (error code 0x8000FFFF).

2012 R2 RDS Temporary Profile issue

$

I have set up a standard 3 node 2012 R2 RDS for testing. All virtualized on VMware ESXi 5.0. I have a connection Broker, session host, and web access server. I have published several applications and I can access them without a problem. Here is my issue:

When I try to log on to my session host server either locally or thru RDP, I am always logged in with a Temporary profile. It does not mater what user account I use. Even logging on locally as the administrator I get a temporary profile.

All windows updates are installed and current.

I have removed the server from the domain, deleted the account, and rejoined it to the domain.

I have deleted all .bak registry entries from here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

There is a hotfix here for a similar issue on 2012 but it does not apply to 2012 R2

The only event viewer errors are:

1515 (Windows has backed up this user profile. Windows will automatically try to use the backup profile the next time this user logs on.)

1511 (Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.)

Any suggestions to resolve would be greatly appreciated.

Poor performance with RemoteApp compared to RDP

We have an application that has very poor performance and freezing when using RemoteApp's.  When the application is run through RDP (full desktop or single app) the performance is great.  We are also using a program to publish the application (2X). When the application is published as a single app, the performance is poor and freezing issues occur.  If we publish a full desktop using 2X, the application performs as normal.

It seems the application only performs poorly when it's not contained in a re-sizable window.  At anytime there is a re-sizable window around the application, it performs perfect.

Has anyone experienced anything like this?  The application works great through RDP but we need a different solution.

local config for Wyse ThinOS and Microsoft Server 2016 RDS session-based

Hello community,

i want to use Dell Wyse Model N06D (3030LT) with ThinOS 8.3.011 to connect to a connection broker of Microsoft RDS with a collection of apps.

I do not have any FTP-Server or Virtual Desktops. How can i configure the Wyse client locally to connect successfully? Is it possible to configure the Wyse Client to display a login window after boot where you have to log in and then you can see your applications published through the RDS collection? Or are there some requirements like virtual desktops?

I made the config for Microsoft as Broker Type and as Host the Connection Broker Server. I imported the certificates for the servers but i still get the error "RD Broker Sign On failed". The event log of the wyse client did not have any entries but the security event log of the connection broker logged my user successful and in the same second logged him off.

Also my global.ini field is empty and cannot be edit. Is it possible to give the client an ini-file without FTP Server? In this forum i saw often specific lines for the ini, for example the option "VDIBroker", but only with FTP.

Why is EFI Partition Showing up as a Drive?

Hi,

Running 2012r2 in a hyper-V VM.

I ran some updates this past weekend and now my RDP clients are see the EFI Partition as a drive. They have no access, but it uses a drive letter that we use for other things. In Disk Management, the partition is there but it is not assigned a letter, even though it appears in explorer.

How do I re-hide this or at the very least change the drive letter?

Thanks,

Jeff

To enable multiple RDP sessions for a single user in a terminal server

$

Hello Team,

In our environment, we have set a group policy setting from Domain Controller such that each users can have only a single RDP session to a terminal server.

But now we are having a requirement such as some users alone would need to have multiple RDP sessions for the same user account in the terminal server.

So could you please let me know if it's possible to implement the  below in anyway.

1. To create a group policy setting, such that user's of a particular group can have multiple RDP sessions for his user ID in the server

2. All the remaining users should have a single RDP session access alone to the server.

Server OS: Windows server 2008 / 2008 R2

Thanks in advance and please let me know if you require any further information.

Regards

Sathish

Issues printing to Wyse terminals

$

I started at a manufacturing facility and they want me to get the system on the production floor back up to speed.  At one time they tell me the printers used to work but for the life of me I can't figure out how.

There are two versions of Wyse terminals on the production floor UNIX and Ubuntu.  Each terminal has a small Brother QL-500 label printer connected via USB to the terminal.  All of the terminals connect to a Windows 2008 R2 Standard server.

I can see that the terminals recognize that the printers are plugged in, and Printing is NOT disabled on the server, but the very best I can get it to do is send a test print and the Brother printer will blink fast indicating an error.

If this was a RDP from a PC to a server I don't think this would be a problem, but the terminals are driving me crazy.  As a matter of fact while you guys are chewing on this I am going to bring up a PC and test that.

The remote computer disconnected the session because of an error in the licensing protocol

I have one client machine - thin T620 Windows 7 embedded.

It uses RemoteApps. Worked fine. Suddenly fail to launch RemoteApp with the error:

The remote computer disconnected the session because of an error in the licensing protocol.

There are dozens posts with a fix of this error... all of them about the same:

"Just delete the "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MSLicensing" registry key...then launch remote desktop using "Run as Administrator". This worked for Windows 7. I had to launch as admin, otherwise it didn't work after deleting the key."

I remember I did this a year ago on one machine...

This time, I deleted MSLicensing in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\ but it is not recreated. So nothing works...

When searched the registry I found MSLicensing in:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\

do I have to delete it here too?

why MSLicensing is not recreated in the place where was deleted?

Thanks.

Nano Server as an RD Virtualization Host

$

I have a Nano Server running as a Hyper-V host and is functioning properly. I have a Windows Server 2016 with Desktop Experience server running as an RD Connection Broker and Web Access server. I would like to add my Nano Server as an RD Virtualization Host server, but it fails the compatibility check with the message "The server must be joined to a domain." Both servers are members of the same domain.

This also generates an error in the event log when I attempt to add the server:

"Validation error: Nano1.<my_domain>.local: The server must be joined to a domain."
Log Name: Microsoft-Windows-Rdms-UI/Admin
Source: Rdms-UI
Event ID: 4099

Am I doing something wrong or is it not supported to use a Nano server as an RD Virtualization Host? I'm guessing the "UI" part of the error message means it is trying to run something on the Nano server that isn't there, but why? If I can use it as a Hyper-V host, why not Remote Desktop Services?

Thanks!

Remote Desktop and Apps 2008r2 Vs 2016

Hello

We currently use 2008r2 to run a single Remote Desktop Server. Half a dozen staff or so may need to log in to it to use a couple of specific MS Access databases for brief periods of time over the course of a day, and a specific few for an accounting program. Most are setup with an RDP file for RemoteApp mode.

I've spent about an hour searching the web for information about 2016 RDS and cannot find alot about it. References to 2012r2 describe that the .rdp file is now gone as a method for RemoteApp. And I can't seem to find any description of RemoteApp mode for Server 2016 at all?  I keep encountering descriptions of needing to setup whole VDI images. I really like the simplicity of our RemoteApp mode approach because we are not a huge user base, but I don't want to go to managing all kinds of full operating system images just to deploy a single app.

Could someone point me to something that offers a clear comparison of the transition from 08 to 16? Is RemoteApp as one would know it in 08r2 completely gone?

First time setting up RemoteApp

I’m trying to phase out an old 2003 Terminal Server that is now only being used by three out of state users. They only use it to access one specific application called Ramquest. We have a new Server 2012 R2 SQL box (member server, not a DC) that Ramquest runs on that I think we can Publish the app to RemoteApp using the quick setup but I haven’t done that before so wanted to get a little more info on how that would work. The server has 2 NIC’s but only one is in use. Can I accomplish this using that single NIC? I figure the those remote users can open the remote app and then I can safely decommission the 2003 Terminal Server.

Hello Guys,

In the last time since we upgraded our Terminal Services to Windows Server 2016, we're facing a problem.

Sometimes it happens that when a user starts a RemoteApp, he get's a black Screen on Logon and nothing more happens.

When he closes the Window and start the RemoteApp again he login successfully.

Have some of you expierienced with this problem?

Thanks for your help!

RDP Over TLS 1.2 Only.

$

Hello Experts,

I am looking for guidance on how to allow RDP over TLS 1.2 only in windows 2008, 2008R2. 2012, 2012R2.<o:p></o:p>

I used IIS Crypto tool to remove all vulnerable ciphers, protocols hashes etc. but when I reboot machine I lost RDP access. I googled a lot and found many articles that state that MS has released a update to support RDP over TLS 1.2 for windows server 2008 and previous versions but I can’t see TLS 1.2 in RDP security layer level in group policy. same goes for windows 2012/R2 etc.<o:p></o:p>

so I can disable vulnerable protocols using IIS Crypto but not sure how to make sure that RDP is set to happen over TLS 1.2 only. <o:p></o:p>

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thank you

Edge/Chrome browser and Remote Desktop Web Access with RemoteApp

$

I guess most of you know that if you use Microsoft Edge or Chrome to access the RD Web Access site (2012 R2) it will not automatically start the RemoteApps but the browser will download the .rdp file and the user have to start it "manually". Anyone solved the way around this or is it just the way it is because it's ActiveX based? I don't think 2016 solves this.

I know you can publish the RemoteApp shortcuts on the user's start menu via the Control Panel -> RemoteApp and Desktop Connections but this is not a solution for us since most of our users are BYOD users.

Windows Server 2016/RemoteFX virtualization compatibility with Tesla M6/M60 driver version 385.54

Looks like, we cannot use 385.54 drivers for virtual GPU, unable to run virtual GPU (Remote FX) as GPU does not show in the HyperV setting. Once they reverted to old driver 376.84, physical GPUs under Hyper-V settings can be seen.

This are not grid Software just drivers downloaded from website.

Is anyone facing the same issue with the driver version.

Thanks in advance

Event 4005 - WinLogin [Windows logon process has unexpectedly terminated]

Folks,

Just noticed this becoming an issue on a Windows 2012 R2 Terminal Server after the last round of Patch Tuesday updates stemming from August 9th, 2016.

Typically, I'm rebooting the server every 24 hours to over-correct the issue - rebooting not being the best option here.

In previous discussions, it's advised to remove KB3002657 or KB3035132 from the server.  Is this still the best option to restore full functionality even with the last round of patches and updates? Just to confirm, we are not using webroot as an AV solution.
