Terminal Server blinking screen

Hello,

We have a 2008 R2 (x64) terminal server. Users connect on it to access to our ERP (Dynamics AX).

We have more than 100 users but only 6 of them have an issue: the application is blinking.

I delete the profile but it doesn't change anything: the issue return back again.

Virtual Machine-based and Session-based in same environment?

Good morning all,

We are currently dipping our toes into VDI and would like to use not only the virtual desktops, but RemoteApp as well. The one thing I am noticing is when you publish apps, the VM collection is removed from RemoteApps. I would like to keep the pool published so users can access the VMs remotely. For this reason, I created a new pool just to publish apps from.

Now the concern is the number of VMs I will end up having in total. Is there any way to use Virtual Machine-Based VMs for the VDI pool, but also use Session-Based VMs for the RemoteApps? From what I am seeing, you choose virtual machine or session-based, but not both. Is there a work-around for this?

Thank you in advance!

Eric

2012 RDS + Gateway Certificate and and .local domains

Can someone verify this is the correct process to stop all certificate errors.

RDS 2012 R2 deployment that is the following.

1 server with broker web and gateway roles installed.

3 session hosts.

Domain is a .local

I want to stop all certificate errors. I have a certificate for the gateway/broker/web server gateway.xxx.com

I have had a look at the Change published FQDN for Server 2012 or 2012 R2 RDS Deployment script

https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Change-published-FQDN-for-2a029b80

Do i just need to run this script on the gateway/broker/web server and will this stop the mismatch errors fro the session hosts?

Thanks

Another user of your computer is currently using this connection. This user must disconnect before you can log on.

Hello

I have a single computer that is going to be shared between 5 people. In an effort to save time. I wanted the users to have a single shared LOCAL login to the computer.

Then each user could pull up an RDS session through RDWEB on our 2012 r2 RDS farm.

However, when I attempt to log in more than one user through RDWEB I receive:

Another user of your computer is currently using this connection. This user must disconnect before you can log on.

I have done some research on this, and followed this advice, and did the following steps on all my RDS session host and broker servers

Enable Multiple RDP Sessions

   -  Log into the server using Remote Desktop.
   - Open the start screen (press the Windows key) and type gpedit.msc and open it
   - Go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host > Connections.
   - Set Restrict Remote Desktop Services user to a single Remote Desktop Services session to Disabled.
   - Double click Limit number of connections and set the RD Maximum Connections allowed to 999999.

However, it did not solve the problem. Anyone have suggestions?

RDS 2012 with Azure MFA sending two SMS/phone Calls

We have a new RDS 2012 farm with separate Gateway, Broker and Session servers.  we have this configured to use Azure MFA which seems to work but the user is sent two text messages when they try to log in.  We think this is due to the user first authenticating with the Broker and then a second time when they connect to their Session Host server.  I'm pretty sure we have something set incorrectly but not sure what?

Many thanks

Error from Sever Manager and Remote Desktop Services does not occur except with two admin accounts

I am having an unusual issue and cannot seem to track down the cause.  I have found other posts on this error but none that address the scenario I am having.  I have two Windows Server 2012 R2 VMs running with RDS in a farm configuration.  When I log into the primary broker server and open the Server Manager I can navigate to the RDS section on the left and see my servers and connections, etc.  All is good.  I can do this under the Administrator (domain admin) account and one other domain admin account that has been in place since the setup of these servers but when I try to login with any other Domain Admin account I get this error in the Server Manager application window.  The RDSFarm still works correctly, no one is having issues using the services, it just does not allow for management of the RDS services unless you use one of the two accounts.  If anyone can shed light on this it would be greatly appreciated.

Domain admins should be able to manage this stuff and I even went so far as to create a new test admin account by copying the Administrator account and I still get the same error so I have eliminated GPO, Profile, Permissions issues.

Guys, this wonderfully handy tool was able to decode the MSLicensing key (and hence the RDS/TC Cal) info on Windows XP but no longer works in Windows 7. Is there an equivalent tool for Windows 7/2008 R2 ?

Before it was to setup easy print now I can't find anything on setting up remote desktop printing. Everything else is fine just can't print to a local printer in a remote session.

Gateway Server address and Certificate subject name do not match error on Vista client

RD Gateway server is 2012, RD Server is 2008 R2. Client is (currently) Vista Gold (surprised me too).

User was able to connect through the Gateway in the past, but seems to have broken around the time that we switched to a real wildcard SSL certificate. Prior to this, it was using a self issued cert.

I'm stalling for time (and hoping this fixes it) by having the user install the Vista Service Packs. Can anyone verify if this is what's causing the issue, or if I need to look at something else?

User Profile Service event id 1530 with every remote desktop logout

$

I've been receiving User Profile Service event id 1530 with nearly every logout from an rdp session.  Our environment is Windows 2008 R2 64 bit running on Citrix XenServer 5.5.  RDP is in remote administration mode.  Tested with and without Windows updates applied.  No additional printers added, no connection to a domain.

Because the environment is virtual, I've been able to try many combinations and have narrowed it down to this: When Windows 2008 R2 has a single processor, the event does not occur.  When I give the virtual server two processors, the event occurs with nearly every RDP logout.  Same results with or without XenTools installed.  I do not have the resources to test the single/multi processor difference on physical hardware.

Any insights would be appreciated. I've posted the full event as well as information about the process that is mentioned in the event.

Hello.

In our company we use Windows 2012 Server terminal Servoces and Wyse D50D (Linux SUSE) as thin clients. I have a problem with redirection attached usb cd from Wyse to Windows. The usb flash and usb hard drive work's fine, but cd not work, I have message error:

"\\tsclient\cdrom is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Attempt to access invalid address."

The problem is on Windows 2012 and Windows 7. There is no problem with usb cd-rom on Windows 2003 Server - work's OK. Where is the bug? Anybody had a similar problem as me? Please help!

Microosft Windows 2012 R2 Remote Desktop VDI session based

We are planning to deploy Remote Desktop services for 6000 users.  We are willing to publish a business application based on Oracle and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) as remote apps.

Number of users that will use Oracle based business application and office applications are 6000 users. All users in the branch Site will connect to our Head Office Site. All remote apps needs to published and accessed locally. No user will access the remote apps from the internet.

Need help in designing, planning and determining the Hardware(Memory, CPU, Storage) requirements and Network requirements on per user basis. Also would like to know about how many physical and virtual servers will be required for different RDS roles?

Also I want to request, if there is any hardware sizing calculator for RDS session based deployment on windows server 2012 r2.

RDS prompting for dual credentials on RDWEB

I’ve followed through this thread in detail.  We still cannot open published remoteapps.  At one point early on, we were able to – that was when we were using a self-signed certificate with only the internal server name.  Now we are trying to take it public and having troubles.

Starting the app fails when we get a new authentication dialog after clicking Connect on the rdp launcher. For example:

Notice that the remote computer (green oval) used to have our internal server name but this was fixed with the Set-RDPublishedName cmdlet.

But this still gets followed by:

Notice (red ellipse) that it’s trying to authenticate against the server’s internal name.  When I browse directly to the internal server from inside the network it’s presenting the public certificate.  This certificate is issued by a publically trusted authority, so it’s likely failing because of the name mismatch.  I cannot get past this dialog box by any means and so we do not have access.

The way I read this thread, I would have thought the Set-RDPublishedName cmdlet would have taken care of this, but it didn’t fully.  When I look at Deployment Properties -> RD Web Access, the URL for the web access server is still showing the internal URL.  This is where I think it’s going bad.

I’m wondering if I missed something.  I’ve seen the HA mode suggestions, but feel that is an egregious non-reversible work-around and would rather not go that route until 1. I’ve exhausted all the options and 2. Am sure that this would resolve our final roadblock.

Our deployment is Server 2012 Standard R2, and we used the simple deployment option, so everything is on a single server.  The certificate is a single name certificate for the public name and works fine when authenticating against the public name.  Please help. We are a non-profit and don’t have access to high end support resources.

Thanks,

Karim

Enhanced or on-demand clipboard functionality

$

Where would be the best place to submit a feature request for an enhanced clipboard feature?

I would like an optional transfer of clipboard to local host but not enabled by default.  I have users with a workflow that requires frequent copy/paste functionality between remote apps and I would like to have the default clipboard feature disabled because the user base is frequently on a high latency lower bandwidth connection.

If the clipboard feature is disabled then they can copy and paste between remote app sessions without affecting bandwidth by transferring clipboard to local workstation but occasionally it is necessary to copy and paste to or from the local workstation.  I would like something like a shift-ctrl-c to copy to local clipboard but a regular ctrl-c would just copy between remote app sessions.

If enable the clipboard then every copy paste function is transferred to local workstation and large text or image transfers are very slow .

Deployment configuration after server loss

Hi,

I have deployment of terminal services windows server 2012 (R2)

and I lost one server from the deployment.

In server manager it is not possible to configure deployment due that.

I can access to the configuration DB but haven't figured out what to remove or 'manipulate' to get the setup configurable again.

Should I deploy new server to domain with the same FQDN or modify the database ?

what would be the prober way to proceed?

Regards, Tomi

Server 2012 no longer calls icawd startupprograms key?

I have XenApp 7.6 installed on Server 2012 and want to launch an executable from this key upon session connection:

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\Wds\icawd\StartupPrograms

Problem is on Server 2012 it looks like this key doesn't get called anymore.  I ran procmon and don't see it.  This key works in Server 2008 R2.

Has something changed in Server 2012?

RemoteApp user assignment not working in collection, all users have access to run all applications even though they don't have access...

Hello all,

I'm having in issue with RDS hosted on 2012 server. Let's say I have 2 applications hosted my RDS session host server, and only 2 users (users a and user b).

user a has access to both applications, while user b has only access to 1 application.

RDS access is given through the user group in the properties section, and permissions are set at the application level "User Assignment" to reflect the above statements.

Both user A and user B still have access two the applications and they both show up under the RDWeb application as well.

I am at a lost of what's going on here. If someone could please help, that would be awesome!
